First Left Handed/first crossbow harvest

Post by Amrap »

After duck hunting in the morning (2 drake mallards) I went out after some deer in the evening. After listening to the turkeys yelping in the distance for about an hour I saw movement off to my right 60-70 yards. I saw that it was two bucks. I pulled my bow up left handed (I'm a righty) just to take a look at the bucks and right when I did a nice doe come around some brush moving towards me at 15 yards. I froze holding my bow up. She stood around sensing something was up, but went back to grazing and the occasional sniff. After ten minutes of this (and me holding my 355 up) the doe is now 3 yards from my stand and the better of the two bucks come around the same brush the doe did. The buck walked to about 7-8 yards facing me with his head up. I decided to take the frontal shot. My diablo and 150gr Bolt Cutter went right through the heart and he fell after about 40yards later. This is my first left handed harvest of any animal and also my first crossbow harvest. Thanks to Excalibur for making a wonderfully versatile tool for deer season!

I always practice shooting left handed with all my hunting tools. You never know when you will be in a situation which requires you to either stand on your head or shoot left handed. This way I am confident of the shot. I have taken many turkeys left handed and a deer of two.
