just aint seeing any deer..

Post by strum »

its been an odd year so far for me..i shot a doe right off the bat and since just aren't seeing deer..my brother and I have hunted in the 3 or 4 areas for quiet a few years now and have always seen deer and we have a little rivalry on who gets the first, most ,biggest ect..
but this year neither one of us are seeing deer its weird..
just came out of my favorite tree this eve and it was the kind of eve you just know youll see something simply beautiful but nothing ..I texted him and same same.. :(
the only thing I can think of is we didn't get any acorns this year and it is still early. got a freeze coming maybe the end of the week . im hoping that will kick em in gear.

I have found that the past while and I think it has to do with the full moon. I know I don 't see many deer during this period usually 3 to 4 days before and after the full moon. Like tonight I saw a doe just as I was thinking nothing was going to show up it winded me and took off. I waited half hour and said screw this I am going in and just as I said that it looked like a coyote walking thru the tall grass..... the another small back came thru the tall grass and just as I was about to leave big Mommy came in!!!!! a beautiful doe with her two fawns...... so I think it has to do with the full moon to a certain point.

Correction-been on 5 hunts so far, same results though. What aggravates me so much is I've seen multiple deer within 200 yds of the house every morning I've left out...thinking yeah they're moving, gonna be a good day. No wonder I'm not seeing any in the woods, they're all in the neighbors yards.

Hang in there. The second season I archery hunted (about 20 years ago), I killed the biggest deer I had ever seen in the woods. I had not seen a deer in the previous three weeks prior to that afternoon.

I killed a doe this last Sunday morning right at the break of day. Saw five deer total. One deer was at 40 yards, but it was foggy and my Vendetta would not range in the fog. The full moon messes everything up. Next weekend should be better, but next weekend in TN is the Youth Hunt.

If you are a moon follower, every other weekend is usually good.

been out 11 times (mornings and afternoon/evenings)and seen deer once and they were out of range. if the deer were here they would at least leave tracks but its rare to even see one. its been going down hill for about 8 years now and before then I used to see deer almost every hunt with several shot opportunities during our long season.

No acorns here unless your hunting close to water and still not much, hard woods with no rain to speak of last yr left the trees bare, tree rats are all over the roads here dead looking for food, when the rut gets in full swing one might want to hunt a food source if you can find one because that's where the does are going to be and the bucks are sure to follow.
