Awesome story!
I got a late start at hunting too, and my first deer is the most memorable.
Congratulations on a job well done!

A big congratulations to you on a job well done and not letting anti hunting views detour you from participating in nature, the food chain, and providing meat free of antibiotics, steroids and who knows what for your family .
I would recommend if you know some one who knows how to properly butcher a deer deboneing, properly trimming all membrane layers and proper handling that you see if they will teach you how it is done.
The only way to get a proper butchering job is by doing it your self paying some one $75 to do it will get you poor quality as a proper job of butchering takes most of a day for one man to properly trim off anything that is not red off all the meat.
Venison is a truly wonderful meat done correctly.

Megladoe down!!!

congrats on the 1st of many!

I remember my 1st. I had tags for anything that walked by. I was looking one way and when I turned I saw a doe browsing at 20. Out of no-where! Took a shot and it was good. Called a bud and said "got a doe!!"(edited of course) We trailed it and when he saw it he said "this doe has horns"(edited of course) I couldnt have been happier! That doe's my biggest "trophy"! I had a late start too and it was the first after a year of nada
