First deer ever

Post by paprof »

Hello everyone,

I am proud to report that I got my first deer ever tonight with my Excal Equinox. This might seem ridiculous to some who have gotten hundreds, but it really meant a lot to me.

Got a late start in life on hunting (turning 40 early next month) though I've wanted to do it since I was a kid, just grew up with anti-hunting mum. Then other things took over for a good long spell and I wasn't able to realize the dream till I moved to northern PA.

Custom fletched some firebolts on the advice of some here. Have come here often for advice on tuning the xbow, beat the tiller problem and got it shooting right this past summer. Thank you.

Saw three deer come into sight of my blind, all does. 2 smaller ones and the one I've seen for two years that I call the Megadoe (bigger than she looks in the pic...I'm 250 lbs if it's any help for reference). She gave me a perfect broadside, squeezed the trigger at just 16 yards and put it exactly where I thought it would go.

Wife is all excited, now she wants doeskin moccasins and a jacket!

Excellent!!!

That's a big step. Glad you got around to fulfilling one of your dreams. Also glad your wife is on board with it. That means a lot. Maybe she'll have her dream of gloves and a jacket realized someday too.

Good job.

Way to go! Great job, great shot and great perseverance. Grill some backstraps and let your mum try them - might change her mind!
