Veterans Day Buck

Post by NEPAbowhunter »

Was on stand Veterans Day and shortly before noon I heard something over my right shoulder. I happened to be standing and when I glanced over my shoulder I seen a buck coming in and he was downwind of me. He stopped once and glanced my way but continued walking. That is when I reached for my Vortex which I had hanging from a easy hanger. Now I have the Vortex in my hands and I am straining looking over my shoulder at the buck as he continues to come in. Any closer and he will surely get my wind if he keeps coming. Then at around 25 yards bam, he puts the brakes on and starts looking around nervous. He then looks up at me in my ladder and turns and trots off but for some reason he stopped after going around 15 yards and turns back and looks at me. While he was trotting off I managed to spin around and lean on the tree and get the scope on him. When I settled the scope on him I flicked the safety off and now I am quickly figuring out how far he looks to be in my head. My crosshair on my Leupold is dead on for 25 yards and the bottom post is set for 35 yards. I am thinking he is around 38 yards, I put the post right behind his shoulder and let the arrow go. With a smack he takes off running and as he is running I use my binoculars which are strapped to my chest to watch him, using the limb off the Vortex to steady them. Then as he is running I see a red spot get larger and larger on his side as he runs away and I knew then he was hit good. Then I see him go down do a few flops and all is quiet. I can not believe it. He is DOWN! Hit him in the ten ring and the arrow came out his chest.
