Spellin it wrong on my part, efazootie. Its bug/insect infestation in deer causes a good many deaths in a deer herd usually in drought conditions.
Oh. That doesn't sound good.

Vixenmaster is right about hemorrhagic disease . The deer you find with it look really dehydrated . Sorta like a dog with parvo . And 99% of the time they'll be found in or around water when they die . Anyone interested can google it and learn all about it .

EHD Disease or blue tongue as some call it. Bite of a midge fly during droughts as we had it in southern half of Indiana 5-6 yrs ago and in our county lost 60% of the deer herd and about 40-50% in most southern counties. Takes about 5 yrs to rebuild the herd but when a state like Indiana keeps increasing the doe tags every year,,hard for the herd to come back as in our case here. I did see 5 does today before the wind got me and now its like 8mph with wind chill of 14 degrees, and supposed to hit 0 wind chill in the morning...makes for a bad day on the stand for sure. Here's a link explaining EHD Disease.

Is that the same thing as CWD or are they different diseases?

I feel your pain...I usually take 3-4 deer every year, but only one 6pt with the .451 White muzzleloader so far. Missed a big doe with the Ibex in October an let several yearlings an two babies pass by. Now I'm not seeing anything in CF rifle season. No acorns anywhere I've been this year is the biggest reason I'm thinkin...

After the big soybean field and corn fields where cut, no deer to be seen an hard to pattern. Not givin up but it doesn't look good this year!
Life may change us, but we begin and end with family.

here I PA there is really nothing to write home about. even though I got 2 deer (the only does I saw) I only saw 10 deer the whole archery season. I did see a lot of bucks, mostly not legal (must be at least 3pt. per antler) just do not see them like you used to... :?

Well things seem to be picking up some around here. I FINALLY got a shot at something, took a doe Monday morning at 99 yards with the new .308. No wall hanger but it's meat in the freezer, YAY!!
