Who has a GoPro?

Post by lscha »

And how many ways do you use it?

Dave and I are giving each other GoPros for Christmas......(He doesn't know it yet.) His is the Black Hero 3 and mine is the Silver Hero 3+. We will both be using it for hunting and fishing. We also got some of the accessories (from the kids, they just found out)

Any tips from the experts out there? Thanks.

I won't get into too much trouble. Dave has been eying them for some time.

Its just to bad that they don't zoom a little. As a camera man that is the only thing that stops me from getting one as I know that zoom is important.

Good luck with it , they do some great videoing as long as its not real far away...

I have the older GoPro Hero for a few yrears using it for white water kayaking till I quit that because of age..I use it for backpacking a lot, have attached it to the jeep for 4 wheeling, carried it on a couple of trips here and there,,and even used it set up on the house and property for a security camera taking still pics with the b extra battery pack set on 1 minute intervals...and even on the stand taking pics of whatever passes in front of it. Its only good for daylight as nite pics suck. What ever you can think of doing with the thing,,,it will work every way imaginable even underwater as have photo'ed a couple of trout in the mts underwater with it. They are a real beater and well worth the money. One thing is if you get hooked on it,,the accessories will set you back more than the camera cost as the reason I never upgraded as the Hero, and Go Pro 2..nothing is interchangeable with the New 3 model. As far as go pro's editing software,,you will find,,you can do more with Windows Live Movie Maker or other software. Enjoy.

You may want to look a little closer into the gopro accessories. Although the cases are different sizes (due to the big changes they made in camera size) all of the other mounting pieces are interchangeable so it is not a total loss.

I love mine and have used it hunting, snorkeling, off roading, highway driving (state trooper style :D ), skiing, you name it they can film it. I have some friends that use them for skydiving, snowboarding and surfing. They even use these little cameras for tv shows like amazing race, gold rush, bearing sea gold, among others.

They are great fun especially if you can find one for $75

Their customer service is horrible, almost non existent.
But we love ours, it is used for almost everything we do. We have mounts stuck to everything from helmets, canoes and quads. It is an amazing and versatile tool.
Don't concern yourself with the zoom, the photos and video are so clean that you can zoom with editing software once the footage is done, the same way digital zoom works.
As mentioned, the smart phone app is very handy, you can view edit and delete footage right from a phone. Add a $15 battery booster from walmart, and you are all set.

That is a very loaded question. The limits of their is unlimited.

I have one mount on my helmets, one on my tricycle, one on a walking stick I use for filming under water when the fish are running ....

I have many plans to try this year to get over head pics. I plan to fly one with a kite (or from a remote aircraft if I find someone that has one). I might even want to try and drop one with a parachute from a kite just to see what it will look like LOL. Next snowstorm I will take 1 minute interval pics to get a time lapse of the snow fall.

Have fun with your Santa gifts.

I can't wait to use it. Thank you to all that responded.

My friend has that quadcopter and uses it to terrorize night-time travelers that are stopped at the rural 4-way near his home. He just hovers it in front of their car when they stop and then lifts it out of sight.

In the Other Topics column a while back someone posted a video of a guy with a quadcopter that put a Go-Pro on it and flew it over Niagra Falls. Its awsome! Worth finding in a search.Incedible views.
