I ran out of arra`s today

Post by Doe Master »

We had a nice snowfall yesterday so me and Dad were alittle anxious to hunt this morning . :)
Dad went to his blind and me to one of my stands on the side of a thick cedar bush .
When it got light enough dad took a picture of the frost inside of the blind .

At about 7:45 I caught movement out in front through the trees . It was 5 coyotes scurrying through . We had heard some when we were walking in . Well one of them happened to come out infront of me at 12 yards . I hit it and it did a couple of circles at if it had been bit by something . Yeah me !! :) Well I radioed dad to tell him the good news . I figured I just saved a fawn or poults life .
I cocked back the bow for the hopefully a deer .
Not 5 minutes later had another coyote come through but no shot unless I had a shotgun with buckshot . Again not 5 minutes pass and I have another one come through . It stopped at my 20 yard mark and it got bit also . :) Radioed Dad once again . He then informed me not to forget I only have 3 arrows .
At about 8:45 I catch movement off to my left . It is a deer . :) Followed by 5 others . They proceed to walk VERY slowly in . Only to come to a dead stop at about 40 yards . The lead doe caught either the wind off the dead coyote or the sight of it sleeping . She stomped for a couple of minutes . But thankfully got some trust and proceeded to walk in . Well I could of shot her at 10 yards but she had a follower with bone on his head . She was safe now !! :) He walked in straight at me from another trail . He spent about 5 minutes either facing me or quartering onto me at 17 yards. Finally he turned , moved his opposite leg forward and then there was a twang . Let me tell you it is hard to follow a deer when there is an explosion of deer running every which way .
I radioed Dad once more and informed him that I was now out of arrows .
Here is the fur left behind by the second coyote .

The first coyote . :)

Kevin, I have always liked the Kwik 3 quiver but at times like this 3 arrows might not be enough
I will have 3 salutes for you tonight. Way to GO!!

That's my kind of hunt. Some folks go all season without that much action. I used to use the Kwik 3 quiver on my compound. Turkey at 40 yards convinced me I needed more arrows. I've emptied my stock ExoMax quiver before once. Those are always hunts to remember. Congrats.

Awesome shooting. They way you are going you might need to check out one of those 8 arrow quivers or have munch make you a special mount so you can carry two (double barrel crossbow?) :D .
