Left one arrow in the quiver(graphic picture)

Post by Doe Master »

Went in as quiet as we could even though there was plenty of crashing and banging from the ice falling from the trees . We went in early so as not to bump anything on our approach . It didn`t work !!!
As got to about 20 yards from my stand and bumped a bedded deer . So I climbed up into the stand right away . To be amazed that I didn`t bump all the deer . I had a deer stand in the dark outlined by the snow at about 40-50 yards . I radioed Dad and let him know that we had deer in the bush between us .
At about 8:00 I was feeling like there was just too much noise going on in the bush to make any deer feel comfortable . So I was checking the wind direction with my compass out and my bow tucked in between my legs . When out steps a young deer at no more than 10 yards . So here I sit with bow way out of position , compass in hand and no gloves on .
For the late season I had decided to carry the old Wolverine for nostalgia sake .
Any ways I raise the bow a little at a time each time it either lowered its head or got behind a tree . I had some corn out so it was interested in the food . When it brought its front leg forward I aimed at the heart and launched the illuminated projectile from 13 yards . It launched itself vertical then did a magnificent buckkick, then ran not 40 yards . :)
I radioed Dad to tell him the good news . We decided to sit a little longer for it was only 8 .
Not but a minute or two later Dad radioed and says there are two deer headed my way . I guess when I shot the two headed his way . He had shot and hit a tree before the deer . So they turned around probably thinking it was just another crashing branch . That is when he alerted me to the approaching deer . Because I knew about the deer coming I was ready . She stepped out at 10 yards from behind a snow covered cedar . I let loose another arrow aimed at the heart once again .
This is where the story sounds oh so familiar . But this time I left the last arrow in the quiver .
Where the first deer was shot . You can see the arrow in the snow beyond the corn to the left .

Here is the second arrow hit .

A happy hunter with the two deer before the haul out . :)
Image
This is the graphic picture . Both deer were heart shot . The first deer ran 40 yards spraying blood with a hole through lungs and heart . Second deer ran maybe 20 yards with same shot . Blood at shot site , couple of drops after and that was all that could be seen on snow .
Here is the heart shot with old fashioned Wasps .
Image
The deer are prepared for the journey out of the bush . :)
Image
A scenery picture that is a fitting tribute to a good season . I am blessed to have got to share this season with my Father , brother and nephew .

Congratulations!!!!!!!!
Looks a lot different there than it is here now. We've been getting rain. :(
At least some cooler weather & snow is predicted later this week, so maybe muzzleloader season (Jan 4-7) will be good.
