405

I was wondering about the difference in kinetic energy between the 380 and the 405.i couldn't find that info anywhere.

Going off the excalibur specs shooting a 350 grain arrow in both and both xbows were shooting advertised speeds M380+350gr@380fps=112ft lbs, and M405+350gr@405fps=127ft lbs

Probably similar to the difference in KE between a .308 and 30-06!!!!

Either way, the quarry would be like Dom Deluise said in "Robin Hood, Men in Tights": DED, dead!!!!!

was just curious I have a 380,im just strong enough to cock it so the 405 would be over the top for me.when my kinfolk said my 380 was way louder than his Barnett I said it didn't matter because whatever im shootin at wouldnt notice because it would be dead!

I forget the formula but if you go to http://goldtip.com/ they have a calculator and you can figure from there. I know my 380 shot in the mid 360's with a 390gr arrow, figure 25 more fps for the mega. Either one has more than enough KE to kill anything you will ever encounter.

In case anyone who doesn't already know is interested the formula for kinetic energy is: Weight × Velocity × Velocity ÷ 450240 = ft/pounds of K.E.

I wouldn't change a thing. The 405 won't make much difference, but that all depends how much further you want your arrows to be driven into the ground after they pass through the game.

I shot my first buck this year with my 380 at 15 yrds. complete pass through and went 50 yrds .past the deer.i was glad I had a luminok (was easy to find the bolt).im satisfied with what ive got but I would love to lay my hands on the 405 just to check it out & see if I could handle the 290lb. draw weight.maybe they will get them at my local gander mountain someday and I can try one out at the indoor range.until then will stick with our 380 and eqiunox

I'm fairly sure my 380 will shoot through a truck door (might try it come spring!) So unless you are driving a bolt through hippo hide not sure its overly significant.

This is both a reply and a question of my own. I bought one of the first 405 crossbow packages with all the bells and whistles. I shot it in and it seemed to work fine. I had a Vortex that served me quite well for several years and thought I would trade up. I took my 405 on a Hunt to Kansas and two days into the hunt I heard my bow limb snap while sitting on my stand. It cut my hunt short by 3 days. The factory had it fixed and returned in a week. My problem is that I am totally convinced that the 380 FPS is most likely all the limbs are built to handle. My 405 is just a wall hanger, I will never trust it again and I have a lot of my Social security money invested in it, as well as the money I got when I sold the Vortex. Is there anyway this can be cut back, turned down to about a 380 FPS, can I put some slack in the string or am I just plane stuck with this wallhanger... Dick from New Jersey.

Make it what you want Tammie, my Mad Max shoots a factory 352 grain arrow at 379fps,, and gives 113 KE but I would never subject my bow to this abuse.

My regular arrows weigh 440 grains and are running 352 fps, this gives me 120# KE.

If I want bad azz I use my 542 grain arrows and they give me 323 fps with 125# KE

Either one uses a fixed blade COC broadhead that shoots lights out out to as far as I have tested it which is 60 yards, and I would fully trust to hunt Cape Buffalo with!! You are definetly under bowed with your 380, and as you can see you can pretty much assemble whatever to get you what you want in KE.
