Daco Hornet crossbow

Post by MCA »

Hi all, wondering if anyone knows of a replacement Prod for this bow, this one has a hole in the center of the bow to mount onto the stock.

its a pretty good bow and very accurate, but noticing some splintering in the glass limbs :( and hoping to find a replacement

thanks

MCA Astro Dacro went out of business in the mid 1980's. If you like that bow, and need a limb, then grad one when you find it as they are very few and far between. Remember that the Hornet I believe was the 120lb model.

Good luck.

Did you find limbs?
I have that bow with new limbs, maybe 3 arrows over them. Still have the factory stickers on them too.

thanks guys, I have a couple of leads on some daco limbs.

however there are lots and lots of the asian 150 lbs limbs out pretty cheap,
I was thinking of having my machinist buddy retrofit the end of the crossbow to accept the asian prods (without the hole in the middle)

thanks again for the help

If you are seriously thinking about going that route, the second model of Excalibur was a Relayer (Astro Daco Limbs) but the new two piece limbs. They just machined a step in the stock to fit the new Excalibur limbs. You might want to contact Excalibur and see if you could go that route, that way you would be able to trust the quality in the limbs. But your trigger of the Hornet would not be in the same class as it is 12lb trigger with the safety needed to be pushed in while shooting.

Good luck.

Daco Scorpion limbs were 150 lbs. Hornets were 125 lbs limbs I believe. But I may be wrong. They may have made some 150lb Hornets. At 33' they are to short to fit my Excalibur Relayer. My daco limbs are 36" on Relayer. Bill T said only 60 Relayers like mine were made.

I was also thinking of shortening the draw length a few inches on the end of the stock so that the draw weight would be between 100-120 lbs, wanted a nice little compact youth bow I could set up for my son at the same time,
thanks again guys

Generally the Astro Daco bows were Scorpion 150lbs and Hornet 125lbs. But Astro Daco did not set their poundage by draw length, but by the limbs. They tested each limb and set the poundage. They would also build a custom limb for your bow to increase the poundage. I know this because my Dad got a 200lb limb for his Scorpion way back in 1983. That limb ate strings, until he made string special (1.5 x) for it, as a thicker string.

Therefore the poundage of a bow did not really classify what model bow you had with them.
