405 speed?

Post by Onetimeonly x--> »

May have already been discussed? What kind of speeds do you think one will get shooting their hunting set up? I know the speeds will vary from one to another. 370,375,380,390 more?

Hopefully I will know in another month but I'm going to use a 425gr arrow and hope to get mid 370's.

Check out this tool on Easton's Website.

http://www.eastonarchery.com/store/kinetic_calculator

Using this, the 350 grain arrow at 405 fps produces 127.5 ft-lbs of energy

Assuming the energy stays about the same you can change the arrow weight to 425 grains and it predicts a speed of 367 fps.

Boo, are you able to consistently pick up the arrow in flight at that speed?

No worries Boo, I can only pick them up consistantly at 0 speed.

Seriously, I have trouble picking them up consistantly due to the recoil . . .not the speed.

How is the recoil on the 405?

Sorry, poor wording on my part. Do you have any trouble seeing the arrow as it flies toward the target? At 408 fps it would hit a 30 yard target in what, .22 seconds? Man that's smokin' fast, if you lost sight of the arrow say due to recoil, it would hit the target before you 'picked it up' again with your eye. Glad I explained that clearly. :lol:

Sounds like he wants to know if you actually see the arrow flying to the target. I would think that you could, especially if using a lumenok......RR

We had this cool chronograph setup at the ATA show to show people what our crossbows are shooting speeds as advertised. The 405 was consistently shooting around 409 with a 100 grain tip. We did try it with a 150 grain tip and we lost about 15 fps which is still smoking. We shot the 405 about 4-500 shots over the week and it performed flawlessly. The string was starting to look a little tired but was still serviceable. If you love speed this is your crossbow!
