Where are the veins coming off?....from the shaft or the vein? Typically they will adhere to both (good) or one or the other (bad) but I personally haven't had lack of adherence to both. Once you know what's preventing your bond you can determine how to correct it....which will probably involve acetone.

Is their an advantage in painting over arrow wraps ? Paint seems like it would be cheaper , any other reason ? more durable on a crossbow ?

It's all for looks, you shouldn't paint over wraps that's a different finish on them than a arrow shaft, [very slick] would require a little prep. Welcome to the forum

Paint is lighter and removes easily with a little Acetone on a paper towel.

Lacquer paint is what I am referring to. Enamel paint is harder to remove with the acetone.

Glue is not sticking to the paint. Vanes are cleaned with acetone and wiped dry. Than Im spraying the vanes with Flex Fletch Zing an adhesive primer .
for glue, I use Firenock's Glue it is the fastest and strongest glue I have found yet. Second best is South Shore Archery's Glue just as good of holding power but a little slower to dry. 3rd is Gorilla Glue holds good drys slower yet.
painted the shafts with lacquer paint and will try and see if that helps also got some more glue coming from Jerry at South Shore.
I like the Flex Fletch sk-300.
I have also tried to glue blazer vanes and vane-tec vanes and it is not making any difference.
May try Duco or fletch tape next .

Ok still did not have any luck vanes would pull off. Went back to the the Rust-oleum Appliance Epoxy paint its an enamel paint . after shafts were dry and before installing the vanes I wiped the shafts and vanes with Denatured alcohol . Bought some glue from Jerry at South Shore Archery ( his glue ) vanes are staying on now.

I found the less glue I use the better. I put 4 small drops on and them spread them on the vane. I only use Loctite Gel.
