machine screw ??????

I am in the process of replacing my stock on my old Vixen.
With a stock for a Vixen2 ---now my problem is that the Machine screw from the
old vixen is too short to fit the Vixen2 front hole [old screw is 1 inch].
What size screw fits and would 1 /1/2 inches be too long ?
If need be I can use the original from the front for the back.

Help Please.

Found some 1 1/2 inch machine screws in my parts box and
mission accomplished.
