Top Mount Quiver????

Post by paulaboutform »

Hi all. I'm genuinely curious what the purpose of a top mount quiver is. I'm not bashing them I'd just like to know why? Looking at them it seems they may just be in the way of arrow loading and I can't figure out their purpose. I am still very new and would appreciate some insight. Thanks. :?

Some seem to like the balance better with the quiver mass centererd over the top rather than one side of your Excalibur. I have heard some say It makes them cant the bow with the quiver on one side.
Also, If ones uses a carry sling and throw your Excalibur over your back the quiver does not interfere.

When you let down the crossbow from your stand the arrows are not the first thing to hit the ground.check out Munch mounts he is a great guy! He is on this forum.

I made a top mount for my crossbow, because it allows it to be carried on either shoulder without the quiver hitting my back and I converted the original mount in to a prop support/stick. I also made my quiver mount a single post for easier access for inserting a bolt.

No Quiver for me on my bow. I put my quiver in my back pack. Less weight on the bow works better for me. Just my 2 cents...

I made it all, using a spare quiver bracket and a nylon type material to stack it for more depth to clear my stock on the crossbow side. Then headed to Radio Shack/The Source and bought a camera tri-pod on sale and took a leg off, I made a dove tail style receiver and bracket to slide into the quiver bracket. The base of the leg is great because it has rubber that will thread upward exposing a steel pin, so if it icy you can use it that way or use the rubber to hold on my hip if I don't want to extend it to the ground. This position also allows me to move with the crossbow shouldered ready to discharge as well. It's very light too and easily removable if I choose to leave it or even carry it separate, because it will attach and detach by simply sliding it off.

i prefer the top mount for several reasons.

1. centers the weight to help reduce the possibility of a off center shot
2. less chance of snagging the arrows on something while walking through brush
3. provides a convenient stand when you set it down on the stirrup and quiver.
4. The Most Important Reason.....the munch mounts look great!!!!

also gives you room for the tac pac or some other device on the bottom.

As already mentioned, the first time I carried my bow using a sling and had the string rubbing my jacket the whole time I knew I needed a top mount, and like PSEwood said, when you lower your bow from your stand the quiver always hit the ground first. And lets not forget the cool factor

Hey Paul, if you can post pics, post one of your chrono mount for me please. I'm curious as to how it's held on a bow.

Fellow forum member Ecoaster bought two groundpounder mounts many moons ago (2004/2005) and gave one to me. Way better than the position of the factory quiver mount!! You could sit in a tree with the quiver attached and rest the bow in your lap. No more torque pulling the bow down. Fit in the bow case better. Carried on the back easier. Walked through the woods easier. Looked better.

Not sure why Excalibur has ignored this obvious practical upgrade. I'm sure groundpounder and munch haven't complained though! Lol
