Excalibur Sound Suppression: S5 vs. Dissipator Bars

Post by CozzyElectron »

Just bought an axiom.

I added the S5 kit.

I am wondering how it compares to the Dissipator Bar Kit.

Anyone have experience with this?

Also, what if I also added the dissipator bars WITH the S5 system?

Would that add anything significant to the sound suppression the S5 already offers?

...or would it pretty much just be adding more weight without any sound suppression benefit?

Cheers!!!

I've been wondering the same thing myself . I have the dissipator bars and added the sts system a couple years ago but lately been thinking of losing the dissipators if they are not really doing anything . Would like to know if anyone has done that and if so what was the results .

I had both on my Phoenix, and recently removed the D bars. With both on my Xbow the vibration is dampened more, but the extra weight at the very front of the crossbow was not worth the trade off IMO.

I've got them both on my exomag, I like them both. Never shot it without D-bars but I could tell a difference with the addition of the S5's. They'll both stay there for me.

I had a Phoenix with the dissipator bars and added the S5's at a later date.
I definitely had a sound reduction with the stops so I decided to take the dissipator bars off and cannot honestly say that taking them off made any substantial difference to the sound level.
Taking them off made a difference to the weight and front end,so I am staying that way for the future!

I had a set bars with all hardware I got from Cabelas Bargin Cave 2 years ago.
Bars=875 gr each X2 = 1750. gr
pads = 579. gr each X2 =1158.gr
screws= 8 =542. gr TOTAL 3450 grains = 7.88571429 Oz almost a half lb
I used my archery scale to weigh the bars
Now I know one of the reasons my Matrix 380 weighs less than my long limbed excaliburs. Thats a 1/2 lb off the front of the bow.

Wow ! That's quite a bit out on the front of the bow . I just might try mine without the bars but it looks like the limb bolts would need a washer or some kind of spacer with the bars removed ?

My favorite Excalibur is my Vortex. It came with Dbars. Added the S5 kit and some reduction in buzz. Removed the Dbars and no difference but front weight difference was noticeable. Removed the S5's and a bit more twangy but no xbow will be as quiet as a vertical bow. At present I use the FFF string and have made a reference mark for brace height. This set up is consistently accurate. Being minimalist there is less chance of problems and the simplicity of the Excalibur is what makes it the best. Try some things and use what works for you and have fun doing it.

Precisely why I won't be installing them on mine.

Just contact Excalibur, and tell them what you are doing, you'll need 4 shorter screws where the Dbars go and the cup washer. I received my parts in a few days from them at no charge.

When I bought my wife her Ibex SMF I didn't realize that it did not have the dissapator bars. I did shoot the bow with out them and found the bow pretty loud. I did purchase them after and once installed did notice a huge difference however it is more weight in the front end. I installed the S5 after as well and did notice further noice but more vibration reduction. Your call as too wether you want to install them on your bow or not. Just my two cents in. Good topic.
