why that broadhead
What's your motivation for using a certain broadhead? Cost, performance, durability, blood trail??? I'd like to know why so many people are shooting mechanicals over fixed blades? Legitimate question, not tryin to start a fight. I used to shoot mechanicals years ago because of flight characteristics until the new short style fixed blades came out (I guess that was also years ago). My thinking is that anything mechanical is more likely to fail. I've had it happen with both rage 3 blades and spitfires. Although I won't use them I know they're huge sellers and people love them. So I'm just curious, genuinely. Thanks for letting me know.

I use spitfire 100 grain until one fails. They work for me. I have quite a few brands, both fixed and mech. I wanna try the ram cats I just goats well. The 1.5 dia spitfires make for some great blood trails. The wife bought me a set of spitfire max. 1.75. Look nasty opened up.,but the tip is different.. Blade type tip. Those slick tricks look sweet too.. So many toys

Re: why that broadhead
i used grimm reaper 2" whitetail specials this year. worked flawless, i watched my buck stumble and drop less then 45 yards. they flew like darts along with some fixed blades like the g5 strikers. the reapers flew exactly like my field points.
I wanted to try a huge cut mechanical see how they worked. Ive also used the rage crossbow last year they also flew good only didnt like the bluntish tip on them.
I will use mechancals until i have one fail. I believe most fail due to user error.

I use Slick Trick 100 gr Standards and Magnums They are accurate as field tip, hit to the same P.O.I., durable, 100% dependable, never worry about premature opening like expandables, can use them with shoot thru screen, always great blood trails .

Snuffer SS or Montec G5s. I like one piece, cut on contact. They are also easy to re-sharpen. To me, they are very simple in design and solid. The Snuffers have a lifetime, no questions asked exchange policy, but I've never had to send one back. I've been using them for years with no issues. They both fly like field points too.

Re: why that broadhead
I prefer fixed blades, I suppose it's a holdover from when I first started bowhunting, that's all we had. I'm fond of the Magnus Stinger 4-blade. Mechanicals have advanced just like everything else, but I've heard so many tales of lost deer or misses due to premature openings or failing to open that quite frankly I just don't trust them. I figure mine is already open, and if they shoot accurate enough to suit me it's one less thing I have to worry about going wrong in the field. JMO but the more pieces and moving parts you have, the greater the opportunity for something to fail. My best friend and hunting buddy won't shoot anything except mechanicals and has had zero problems with various ones, so i guess pick what you like best and go for it.

Re: why that broadhead
I mostly try out several new BH's each yr to see if'en i like them or not. I have neverhad a Spitfire fail & i have killed a few good hogs wid'em sides deer. I have had a mech. that was terrible, didn't even hit my Buck at 30 yds They lay in my drawer gatherin dust. I have used some good fixed blades also. I have ran into somethat were good on one pack & the next pack sucked! Couldn't keep them in a 6" group at 30 yds. I sent them back fer a full refund!
