I've been emailing Excal and they've told me I can just send back the trigger unit instead of shipping back the whole bow. I bought it from Sail so that's where I am setup for them to send it back. If you haven't received any contact from your retailer they will send you an authorization number to you instead if you contact Excal.

Well imagine that ...

Just returned from a week in Ottawa for work and sitting out in the living room is a new in the box 405 that I picked up yesterday.

Should have been checking in from my hotel room.

Sent Excal an email and will wait to hear but I wont bother assembling it just yet~!

I tried to get my 405 to misbehave just to see if it would this morning. I pulled the trigger as hard as I could and then flipped up the safety lever as abruptly and firmly as I could while holding on target. No premature fires occurred. I am still going to have the trigger replaced at one of the US locations (Woody's) once I get my authorization number. However, I do not think I am going to rush as they do not even have any parts to do the replacements yet and the bows are already starting to come in. Therefore I see no need to have it sit there until things settle down. If I shoot it anymore I will just have to be extra careful, though I don't really have to shoot it this time of year and I also have a backup. I would consider the trigger tech option but I understand such a move could void the warranty and I don't particularly like that scenario. I do get a kick out of the "it must be the 405" and "have we gone too far" comments. I can't imagine the 405 is that much more powerful with regards to string holding forces than the 380 is. Yeah it is probably more than we need for any uses we will ever get to actually do, but we can always dream of that elephant hunt and apparently there are a lot of us still dreaming!

Yeah it is probably more than we need for any uses we will ever get to actually do, but we can always dream of that elephant hunt and apparently there are a lot of us still dreaming!
Yes , but isn`t it fun to see how far you can bury your arrow into the dirt on the other side . :lol:

This issue affects you whether you test your 405 and it is OK, or not. When they left the factory they were ALL ok, and if you don't ever shoot them they will remain so, but on an unknown number there can be accellerated wear due to a variation in hardness between the two sears. On these crossbows it isn't about whether this will lead to an unsafe condition, but when. For your safety and the safety of others, DO NOT assume that you don't need to abide by the recall! Send it back for replacement parts!

I did see a few posts regarding not getting a return email or phone call about their 405 recall inquiry. Once we released the information everybody emailed and called almost immediately, overwhelming our customer service department.
