A quick afternoon hunt

Post by goosesmasher »

I left the house nice and early yesterday around noon and went out to a spot that had been good to me in the past with my exomax to try my luck. After about three hours of nothing I decided to go for a drive and check out some of my other farms to see if I could find a bird to play with.

I was driving to a particular farm when I passed another one of my farms and a big old strutter was in the field doing his thing. Game on!! He was in a great spot for me to move in on him so after a few minutes I was about a hundred yards from him so I set up my decoys and clipped myself out a hiding spot under a pine tree.

I made one yelp on my slate pot call and the big tom answered right away. He got fired right up and was coming. Then I could hear what sounded like a person walking towards me and I knew it was another turkey coming because the other tom was still gobbling in the distance. The second tom popped out of the brush at about twenty yards. He locked onto my decoys and came right in ,full strut drumming all the way. I was able to make the eleven yard shot and he was down on the spot. It took two minutes from the time I made the first call until he was down! Just awesome!! They don't go far when you hit them like this!

:) Great story, quick hunt. It's great when things work out like that. Let's see if the second tag is as easy to fill. Good luck...
