After taking a nice Tom with my Remington I decided to hunt with my new M405. I headed out nice and early on my second hunt of the season and set up. As it started to lighten up I could hear gobbling a couple fields over in the hardwoods. As the sun started to rise the Tom answered my hen calls and we went back and forth for about 20 minutes or so and I could tell he was slowly coming my way so I stopped answering him right after I returned his gobble with a gobble.
A short time later a nice looking Tom appeared through the fence line into the field I was in and started to strut. He paraded around back and forth slowly moving closer and eventually worked his way to my hen decoys and presented me with a nice shot at about 25 yards. I've never harvested using a bow and I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm not sure if my lumi-nock failed or I'm not use to the 405 because I didn't see my bolt go. The bolt knocked the Tom over he flopped a few times and that was it.
When I went out and recovered him I couldn't believe the damage that had been done~! I searched high and low for my bolt but couldn't find it. It was tough taking a decent picture of him without showing the damage as the shot was on a bit of an incline and entered in the sweet spot but exited high.
Is anyone else noticing that it's a funny season? Both of the Toms that I harvested were by themselves without any hens.
