Victoria Day Weekend Turkey

Post by Doe Master »

Sorry to disappoint everyone . Not another Matrix post .
Saturday started kind of frosty and quiet for any turkey noise in one of my deer spots .
So I decided yesterday to go to one of my producers for turkeys . At least if you hear gobbles you have the illusion of hope . :)
Got to the bush early for the long walk-in . I have found some people are lazy if they can`t use their ATV then they stay close to the road . I was sat down by 5:00 and didn`t have long to wait for gobbles to start . The bright moon was shining so at about 5:15 one lit up and then my Sunday morning choir began . :) I did a short move to a better spot . I thought !!!
At about 5:35 he flew down and gave me a report once in a while to his progress . Unfortunately his last gobble was at about 2 o`clock to my position . A few soft clucks and purrs got him to change his course towards me . Since I`m right -handed I had to change over for this encounter . He walked in to about 20 yards then went out of sight behind a big log . My next sight of him was starting to veer away . So I got down on the gun and closed my eye . Concentrated putting the bird in the frame and then took his picture with the loud camera . :D
It is amazing how time seems to slow down when we are totally immersed in something . The shot was at 5:58 . :)
I made a few texts and a phone call . While I`m on the phone with Mom the bird decides to do one last victory lap flapping .
I took a couple pictures there , then packed up and went to try and get another bird for my brother .

On the way over I saw this fog on the field and thought it looked nice .

Well the hunt with my brother did not produce . But he did get some bonding time with his son-in-law . Steve can sleep most anywhere . But in his defense he did arrive down here at 10 pm and my brother had him up and out the door at 4:30 . :)

Got them to take a few pictures .

This is the best picture as far as I`m concerned . But I`m a little biased . :D
