Mike do you know an average weight for a blank before you start? Just curious, I bought a blank a while back ( I may get industrious.....right) and it weighs 11 lbs!!!! I know much comes off a blank but this seems really heavy to this newbie.

This is where it gets interesting You notice that I started taking off where there was the most wood which is at the rear of the stock. Then I jumped to the safety and moved towards the rear again. NOW I am going to fit the first finger in the pistol grip and then the rest on down. What I am getting at is that its not that you can just do the rear of the stock and then work your way towards the front, but a marriage of first the rail pocket then the rear of the stock and then because the safety is a stationary item, that next and then the pistol grip. After that the grip tells you where the rest will fall into place going back And, all this has to stay in perfect alignment hence the need for the small holes that I drilled dead center in the stock. Its a beautiful thing when it all comes together. Its the reason that I decided to stay poor and chase wood all my life. :D

Slowly fitting the fingers around the grip. Hard part is turning it over and doing it again.

Put a little wave in the trigger guard to make yours just a little different Alan. :D

I am tryin g something different with the bottom wood coming off of the grip. I am making it narrow and then swelling it and then narrow again. Hope that you can see it. Allan, what you think??

After discussing the orange comb we decided that it was a bad fit looks wise for the light maple and it is softer than I would have liked so off it goes and on with the dark wenge.

Put the cap on the pistol grip. Normally I drill holes in the grip to lesson the weight but with the Quilted maple I can not change it with the grain going everywhere and anywhere;
