Stands hanging year round?

Stands hanging year round?
Do any of you guys leave your hang on stands hanging year round? I have a couple inexpensive ones that I do. If you do, do you hang them with nylon straps. Although I use ratchet type straps to help create a more stable platform, I'm too scared to rely on them alone. I use them as a backup to galvanized chain. I'm less worried about what the squirrels will do to the chain.

You're better off with chain. You have to check that tree growth has not compromised the chain though, just to be safe!

Stands left year round in these parts disappear to Space Aliens or develop legs.

Re: Stands hanging year round?
I've had some ratch straps break. I'm guessing because the tree grows or maybe there's some expanding with wet weather?

Squirrels will also chew ratchet strap straps
Re: Stands hanging year round?
After the huntin season I loosen the ratchet straps on my ladder stand slightly to allow for tree growth, but I replace the straps every year because the UV light breaks them down plus they are relatively inexpensive to buy and I simply feel safer with new straps installed every year especially since my youngest daughter hunts in the stand with me.

Yes i leave 3 of mine hangin yr around. I jus ck rachet straps & replace any that have or show damage
Re: Stands hanging year round?
ladder stands left out year 'round on our lease. only 1 pop-up ground blind and one climber stolen in 18 years.... we remove all nylong ratches and "chain" to tree
with python locks (no rust) chained loosley,, be surprised how much a tree will grown in a season...... also i went to a 2 inch widith ratchets for stands..... the wider and stronger straps makes all the difference. they're solid with a maxed out (weight wise) buddy stand,, solid as a rock!!

Re: Stands hanging year round?
yes i have about fifteen stands between climbers, ladders, pop-ups that stay up all year round. been lucky no one in our area has lost any of their stands to the wood fairys to my knowledge, been going on 30yrs. i just replace straps and stands as needed
better an overkill than an underkill

Re: Stands hanging year round?
I have several that I leave year round.
I personally do not trust the attachment from the manufacurer 100%. I always add an additional attachment normally in the form of an ratchet strap.
I also have a property that if I leave footprints they will dissapear like everything else that isnt nailed down so for that 1 it's climbers only. I cant even leave a salt lick out without it growing wings.
Cheers

Re: Stands hanging year round?
I pull all my stands (6) every January after deer season goes out,,,and don't start putting them back until Sept as will change with the chase of the big bucks depending on where they are and where they have moved to. Have a lot of timbered hills surrounded by fields (couple of square miles or so) to hunt and cover so right now I have a couple of areas picked out, but as I squirrel hunt and scout,,will decide later on when and where they are going up. Even if I put them up,,,constantly moving them and adjusting to the elements of weather and deer movement. In some areas of the brush country,,,will still hunt off the ground and not even use a stand and just use natural surroundings for my cover.

X2. The UV and the elements take a toll on the nylon straps. They can look fine right up until they break. Best to replace them periodically.Limbs and Sticks wrote:Bullzeye wrote:After the huntin season I loosen the ratchet straps on my ladder stand slightly to allow for tree growth, but I replace the straps every year because the UV light breaks them down plus they are relatively inexpensive to buy and I simply feel safer with new straps installed every year especially since my youngest daughter hunts in the stand with me.
