no doe tag this year

Post by Carnivorous »

I applied for antlerless archery only Ontario WMU 92 and was turned down in the draw. Wow first time in 10 years I will only have one buck tag to fill in Ontario. They must have slashed the quota big time. Last year we had hundreds of extra tags left over :(

On the bright side we have several weekend hunts booked in Michigan. I will spend my hunting dollars on the other side of the border and pay less for gas beer and food.

I called the MNR yesterday about doe tags in 92 and discovered that the doe quota was met and about 200 were not successful in obtaining antlerless tags in 92.
You are not alone Jeff, Patti did not get a doe tag either.

No doe tags or surplus tags last few years in 56 or 75 where we hunt. Makes it tough when ya got 2 apprentice hunters wanting to compete for my 1 tag. On a better note my older son will be 15 in Sept and can get a buck tag of his own.

No additionals in the Booville area. But Karin and I both got doe tags
I am going to guess that the MNR are conducting population studies based on the deer hunt surveys they hand out. Based on not filling them in they have to go on zero deer seen if no survey is sent back. I'm guilty of that and will mend my ways this season.

You are correct Don from what I have heard . When a few people say they had a horrible year for seeing deer . The MNR have to assume the population is down . Not that the people could be poor hunters .
I got lucky and got tags .

don i was told next year you will probably see turkey tags cut back to one because guys are not doing the phone in calls. they also want to know why someone would buy a tag then 3 weeks latter by a second tag and never call in to state the first one was filled.

Both me and my daughter received ours for 73 but quotas tend to be high here.

No doe tag for me here in 65, and out of the other two guys that hunt with me one did get a doe tag and not the other. Last year we all had them so I guess we cant complain. We will check about tags in another area that does a bow only to see if can get a doe tag, they normally have extras.

I got a doe tag for 49 but since there are no additional tags in 93 this year I'm not sure how much bow hunting I'll be doing at least until November rifle season is done. Strange year in Ontario, last year I bought an extra bow doe tag for 93 & extra buck or doe tag for 49 & still had my regular tag as well. Now there are no extra tags in any of my areas.

Down here in Colorado there was an article in the Denver newspaper noting the considerable decline in the Mule deer population --- mainly in the NW portion of the state and related reduction in available permits. Reduction in numbers was attributed to loss of habitat, human conflict (oil field activities), and a couple bad winters. Where I guide in SE Wyoming for antelope, they have reduced the permit numbers by 42% for the next 4 years in an effort to rebuild the herd numbers. We have been telling the WY biologists for the last several years the herd numbers were falling but it comes down to $ income for the state and they had been hoping for a natural rebound which did not happen ---- now they have to take some rather drastic action and reduce the hunting permit.

My son and I drew Does for area 87 but there are always additional seals in that WMU.

Lady at Service ON told me there were reductions in a # of areas this year - She didn't have a reason why but speculated the recent winters.

Bummer Norm!!

BTW I called the MNR also and asked if they would be cutting the controlled hunter numbers as well. They had no clue about what will happen with the controlled hunt draw. If I get shutout of that hunt too it will be a sad year for me... ;(
