OT - Interesting Catch

Post by IronNoggin »

Hello Folks,

Just back from a month of dark to dark fishing.
Salmon lived up to the hype around them this year, and so the catches were good.
Happy but Damn BAGGED!

Had an interesting encounter while fishing off Esperanza (WCVI - outside and west a little of Nootka on Vancouver Island).
A Salmon Shark decided to try on one of the plugs we were using for springs.
Good Sized Bugger, but just a tad on the Vicious side! When I eventually did try for the underwater shot, the Bugger SMOKED HARD to try and engulf camera and hand in one bite!!

Needless to say, that is one photo that wasn't captured!!

Little video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIHO4wvsluo

And a couple of pictures:

Just When You Thought It Was Safe to Go Back In The Water!!

Cheers!

That is awesome!
Hunting is in our blood, it is our passion. Hunters are all like minded to an extent but its the fact that we are archers that makes us brothers.

Gotta ask,
Just how do you go about releasing one of them?
Or does it become fish food?

Let's just say it was... well... Interesting!

Took a few minutes to wrestle the plug out of his maw, and the whole while he was chomping at the gaff, the sky, my arms... I now understand why the movie Jaws was so frightening for some!!

Cheers,

Man that's cool. :)

1. How do you put a video on YouTube?

2. How do you edit out bad language?

Pretty easy actually. Go you YouTube, set up an account (only takes but a few minutes). Log in, and upload away.
2. How do you edit out bad language?
 That one's a little trickier. Have to get your mitts on a decent video editor, then edit out / in the sounds you want. Thankfully in this case, the "bad language" only occurred as I was working on releasing the bugger!

A little more intel on these Beasties...

The Salmon Shark can achieve 900 pounds in weight.
This one was only 6 feet, and pushing 300 pounds. Still FAR to big to wrestle onto the deck!
They are one of the only Warm Blooded sharks in existence. This allows them to range much farther North than the vast majority of their toothy kin.

Interesting documentary from Alaskan Waters for any who might be interested:
