Help With Accuracy

Post by PhoenixNJ »

Hello Guys,

I am new to the crossbow world and just recently purchased a used Phoenix for my sick father. I am trying to get this thing dialed in but it appears that the bolts are hitting all over the target at 20 yds. One second all groups are awesome and the next I'm all over the place. This is using a nice sturdy rest. I checked out the scope and everything is tight. Can anyone point a newbie in the right direction?? Thanks in advance.

try using 1 arrow only. pick out the one that shoots the best. it's a slow process but the best way . they all look the same but they are not. it takes a bit to get them all alike. try this and you will do ok. make sure that the scope is tight. this will also cause you trouble .

You can have a tight scope, scope mounts n rings & still have scope trouble. Make sure the trigger assembley screws inside the stock that are in the rail are tight & make sure stock screws are tight. Then try yer arrows & ck the arrow fletchin. Then sometimes the scopes internals are jus no good & it on't hold a setting

It is a process of elimination as stated. Make sure the bow, and scope components are all tight, then go through the process of sighting in with one arrow. If good, add another arrow, and so on. Is your brace height set to the correct height? That is a problem for a lot of new shooters, just don't know how important it is.

Good luck, post back when you're dialed in.

I havent had the time to get to the range and shoot again, but I went over the scope again, everything appears to be tight. I quickly went over the screws for the trigger assembly, wasnt sure exactly what I was looking at, will do it again when I have time to go in depth. Thank you for giving me some ideas on where to look guys.

PS my brace height is within standards. Any possible way that the crossbow doesnt like the bolts I am shooting? I am using the Carbon Express Pile Drivers. Thanks again guys.

yes there is a chance the arrows or the fletchin doesn't shoot well out of yer Excal. Another screw test see if'en the scope will move up n down in the rail. Jus grap the end where the spring retainer is an see if'enit will move. If it does then the trigger assembly screws are loose where it attaches to the rail. Have to pull the stock off to get to them. Use a dab of blue locktite on those screws.

It could be the scope itself, loose reticule adjustment. Only way to test is a different scope. If so, say goodbye to it. If it's a Excalibur scope it's covered by warranty. I'm sure someone here has Danny Miller's phone # (Excal warranty dude).

Sorry guys for all of the delays...I am working shift work and am on nights right now. I went over all the screws thoroughly today and everything is tight.

I am not sure what my next step should be...possibly go buy new bolts, try something else? Or go buy a new scope and try that. Unfortunately I dont have any extra scopes lying around. I've had issues with scopes in the past that were screwed internally, so I always immediately tend to think scopes are the problem after having been through scope aggrevation before. Which would you guys suggest?

Danny Miller Excals Guru he be the warranty man in Sardis Ohio. Ok all screws are tight. What brand name arrows & can you tell what fletching is on them ? Take one arrow only put a dot on one vane. Put that vane down in yer arrow slot n shoot it, see where it hits. Shoot it several more times to see if'en hits the same spot. What rear nocks are on yer arrows ? Is string set on brace ht ?

I am using the Pile Driver bolts by Carbon Express. They are pretty heavy, I am not sure if that matters, weighing in at 342 grs. I am not sure if the OD matters, but they are .348". They have the flat nocks and I am not sure what vanes. They are 4 inch vanes, straight fletch. Also, I have the brace height set right in the middle of the two markings on the rail. I've tried different field point weights from 100, 125, and 150. All with the same result.

I havent tried shooting just one arrow over and over again. I will try that next.

Yup were at that stage of shooting one arrow. This will tell if you have arrow & fletching trouble or the scope isn't right. If you shoot the one arrow 5 times & it hits all in a 3/4" spot then the arrow is good at the yardage you shot it from.

Did the Phoenix come with the peep and pin sight as well? If so you can try it and see if it still acts up or if not it's the scope. Just a thought.
