What brand of flashlight do you use?

Thanks for the info. On the recommendation of Normous i just ordered a Fenix PD35 flashlight and HP25 headlamp. I'm still waiting for them but I can't wait.

I'm feeling better hearing more positive feedback about them.

You'll like the PD35, 2014 version has almost a 200 yard throw. 4 other levels if you don't need the turbo mode.

A browning headlamp. Picked up a byte headlamp recently and for tracking went to a Fenix TK11 a couple years ago. Very different than the old AA mini mags used for so many years.

Then bought another Fenix 11 for bump in the night outfit.

An excellent explanation on lumens by Pydpiper!
To illustrate a bit I took my new Fenix E35UE to my back yard and snapped some pics.
The light is rated at 10-120-360-900 lumens.

120 -

360 -

900 -

As you can see 120 to 360 is very easily distinguished. From 360 to 900 isn't huge in the pics, but at longer distances it IS very noticeable. If you look to the left of the short section of fence (actually an old target backstop from my longbow shooting days) at the end of the row of plants you can see the brush in the background clearer at 900.

.....just received my Fenix PD35 flashlight yesterday....can't believe the power in such a small unit....I like the back end button to turn it on and off and a thumb switch toward the top where you toggle through the power settings.

When you turn it off and then back on it returns to the setting when you had you turned it off.

Must keep my eyes on this one as I can see it could easily be lost or worse......

Just got a new Fenix HL55 headlamp to use for hunting this year. It has 4 ouput levels (10-55-165-420 plus a 900 lumen burst mode which stays on for only about 30 seconds then switches back to the previous mode). I also broke down and bought a good charger that will handle AAA-AA-RCR123-18650 batteries of NiCad, NiMH, or Lithium types. So far I've only tested it with a Sanyo 18650 2800mah and shut it off after 2 hours on high (420 lumen). It was still going strong and guessing from the charger indicator lights (battery still had some charge in it) I'd say the 3hr 45min claim for high runtime may not be far off!
Not a spotlight for sure, but for tracking at night the beam should work very well. Lights things up really good out to 50 yards or so, and would reach probably 100 yards+ on "burst" mode, but for tracking I'm interested in 1-10 yards and this light really illuminates things that close!

I had received my Fenix PD35 and got to use it on a river fishing day and it's amazing. I also just received my Fenix HP25 Headlamp a few days later and it's AWESOME! I've only tried it around the house but it is impressive. I'll try the headlamp out Tuesday morning when i head back out to catch some salmon on the river. I'm always walking in when it's pitch black. Thanks for the heads up and info on these little lights they are excellent. They may be small, but they carry a BIG LUMEN!

Got to try the Fenix HP25 headlamp yesterday morning walking into my fishing spot. AWESOME PRODUCT! Well worth the money and I am amazed at the output and throw of this light.

Bushnell...Cree, Red and Blood. Walmart one AA battery $19.97 works for me small and functional. The light is not what educates the deer it's the noise we make walking in or out

lowes and home depot both sell a 3 cell led FL made by defiant, led armormax
it has 2 levels of brite and a strobe.
$29
I got one and took it to work, 4 other guys bought one and we are all happy.

uses 3 "D" cell alkaline batteries.
search home depot for the defiant led armormax

this light will positively do awesome for bloodtrail'n at and after dark.
