I'm a switch hitter....no jokes now....

I use hooks DOWN when cocking. Reason: the string is sandwiched between rail and hooks. Also since the bow isn't cocked and there's no load, if the hooks aren't engaged properly, there's little risk of a mishap.

I use hooks UP when uncocking. Reason: when string is in the cocked position, as well as what Boo has stated, the hooks seem to hug the rail better.

Hooks down here. Never had any problems cocking or uncocking. My rope is short enough that I pull up a couple inches on the bow string to engage the hooks, no question about positive engagement there. WHen uncocking I pull the heck out of the left handle and work trigger and ADF with my right hand, no problems at all. Now that I said that watch me get popped in the face with a hook next time

why wouldn't you want to see if the string is set 100% in the hooks, always hooks up!

....hmmmm?

Mine are usually down. I also leave my cocking rope attached to Jelly Belly while cased...so after a great deal of consideration and thought.....

I will continue to leave them down to cock the bow....and face them up do decock it!

Phew....

"I will continue to leave them down to cock the bow....and face them up do decock it!"

But if you do this then you would have to reverse the hooks when you get ready to cock the CB again. I also leave the rope cocker on the CB after each hunting trip.
