I am a man and have never had a problem with asking questions, asking for directions if/when needed or reading owner's manuals. Problem is, when I bought my 380 last fall there WAS no dedicated owner's manual for it, just the generic one from Excal.

From reading and asking on this site back then it looked like the consensus for the 380 was 1/8" off the bumpers. Is that still the case?

Thanks!

Yes, 1/8, or 1/4" is even better. Here's my humble opinion... look at a Matrix and a long-limb magtip bow side by side, there is a big difference in the shape of the limbs out near the tips. The Matrix limbs curve forward a lot more at the ends and the string comes in contact with the limbs the last couple inches... the lower the brace height, the more the string slaps the ends of the limbs and the more likely a failure is to occur. That's a whole lot of energy slamming against those tips. Not so much on the magtip limbs, you can play a lot with brace height on magtip limbs and go pretty low with not a lot of negative side effects because of the different shape of the limbs. I think it was Wes that summed it up best, the Matrix are much less forgiving than the previous models. That's my theory anyhow.

Personally I prefer a 1/4" off bumpers. Tears them up less.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info. When I got my rig out this season the string was on the bumpers and then some. I had to twist it up 10 turns to get 1/8". Then I shot it maybe 10 times to get things RTG and put it in the case. The next day the string was on the bumpers again and it took two more turns to get 1/8" off the bumpers. Is this normal string stretch/creep, and what is the maximum amount a string can be twisted?

Thanks again! 8)

String can be twisted up an inch or more, Jus don't kink it.

Exactly what Kegbelly said..The Matrix has true "recurve" , and lots o it.. The previous models are somewhat longbow/recurve hybrid . The string never slaps the limbs.. make sense what Peter says about tips vs limbs cracking of older models..yep.. Brace height important for all new Matrix buyers.

Remeber folks, alot of people go and buy one because they want to bow hunt. But cannot use a bow. To me its like buying a new rifle. You take it apart, reclean it, read and manuals that came with it, reajust, then go. If owned a lot of guns, bows and have always read the manuals. Its saved me a lot of pain and heart ache.
The ones that dont blame the manufacturer, when something goes wrong.

Anyone from Windsor, know what CTC that bow with the wrong spacing was?

Here's a good example... The dye rubbed off one of my strings onto the limbs but the point is you can see how much contact the string makes with the limbs on Matrix models. And this was with correct brace height of 1/4" off the REDS. Again JMO but I think maintaining proper brace height is much more critical on a Matrix than on magtip limb models. Understood that the Matrix is the first bow for a lot of people and they may not be aware of this, hope it helps save someone a problem down the road.

The deer is on the "other" side of the limbs.

hi guys,
so i have to confess that i dry fired my bow (matrix 330) after only a few shoot with a new Boo string. i was just zeroing a new scope and didn't pay attention to my empty rail... and TWANG!
I am happy to reveal that everything was ok :D
I had to twist the string, and tighten 2 scope screw. i had about 50 shoot after that, and everything seems good.
that beeing said, i was so proud to Never had a dryfire with my excalibur, and i think it is very easy to avoid dryfire by warning customers, as some suggested with a paper on the string...or wathever you can imagine.
