Pooping in the woods, and why it helps kill deer
So, 10 days ago I told you all about my nephew having to go while we were hunting during the youth weekend. After doing the dirty, we got up and walked a trail for a few hundred yards. While walking, we came across a spot where literally 1000's of acorns were in the trail. It was getting late in the morning, and my 2 nephews were done, but I most certainly made a mental note of the acorns. This morning I woke up extra early to watch the lunar eclipse from my stand, and I headed to the oak tree. I've never hunted within 200 yards of that spot, but the wind was perfect, and even without seeing any tracks in the area the other day, I figured that much food would draw them in. At 9:15 this morning, deer began pouring into the area. I think the full moon kept them out of the area earlier. They fed in to right under my stand. I took a chip shot with my 380 at 14 yards, and miss doe ran about 40 yards before flipping over. Excalibur Matrix 380 scores again! 2 shots, 2 kills. And thanks Luke for pooping. I'd have never found the spot if you hadn't.

$hit happens! You might wish to educate him on the uses of white toilet paper during deer season in the woods, specialy during rifle season. Many a hunter has met their demise doing the deed.

I guess most yall folks ain't too old yet....once I get my coffee and Cajun vinny
biscuit, it happens when your most relaxed. specially when you start hearing quail wondering about early rite at daylite.
I've climbed down from the ladder many times and not much longer after I got back up there....they were everywhere !!! few times with bow but many times with centerfires.........
one would think that the movement and deposit would turn them off...
remember, there not watching you. there coming your way.
your timing is right.........

I think you were even along for one of those hunts.Doe Master wrote:I know one individual on here calls it his deer lure . Starts with T and ends with M .

This is a long standing joke among those I deer hunt with. A few years back I was doing a morning hunt at a local farm. Not sure what I had for breakfast but nature called with a vengeance. I got about 40 yards from my ground blind when I had to answer the call. Got back to my blind and figured my hunt was over but it was a gorgeous morning so I thought I'd hang out and enjoy the peace and quiet for a while. Not five minutes later a buck came out into the field 125 yards across from me. He came across and ended up about 30 yards to my right just out of my sight. I did a couple of grunts (on the grunt tube this time ) and he started coming my way. He was heading straight for my morning deposit, crossed 20 yards in front of me and I dropped him.
The next year in a different spot on the same farm I had the same gastric distress. I got back to my blind and within minutes two mature does popped out of the bush into the edge of the field. I dropped the lead doe at 15 yards and the other on trotted off and almost ran through the "pile".
A year or two after that Doemaster and I were at the back of a swamp during the controlled hunt. I was sitting in the thick stuff with my shotgun and he was a little ways behind me with his muzzleloader. I probably don't have to tell what happened next. After not seeing a thing for a couple of hours I decided to take a short walk and "lighten the load". I got back to where I was sitting and yup, a few minutes later a buck showed up. It was hard to get a clear shot at him but he eventually crossed about 20 yards beside me but just as I squeezed the trigger he ducked to go under some brush and I shot over him. He was heading straight for Doemaster's stand but I'll let him tell that story.
Anyway, since then I get regularly razzed about the "poop lure".

I wonder if that is considered "baiting" in MO?

my 1st deer I got when I started archery hunting in 1980 was a nice big 187lb dressed 9 pt buck, that I shot 45 minutes after dropping some logs outta my tree stand....cause I couldn't wait any longer and could not move due to the pain holding for as long as I did already, so bombs away ....

[quote He was heading straight for Doemaster's stand but I'll let him tell that story.

The rest of the story is " Lucky " was saved by a small tree from me . He ran away and not but a minute later there was another shot rang out from the neighbouring property .
I can honestly say I will go hunting without a lot of things . But ONE is not my TP .
