Mattix 380. First miss. First kill

Last Saturday I had a doe about to turn broadside at 38yards. While getting ready to take the shot she looked up and seen me. She was almost facing me and with the drought I had been in and needing meat, I took a hard quartering shot hoping the matrix would be faster than she was. Well, it wasn't. Clean miss.

Fast fwd 7 days

Yesterday, buck comes cruising in. Tall narrow rack looked to be a all 8pt. Broadside, unsuspecting of my presence at 18yards I drilled him... Both lungs. He ran about 40 yards and started walking like nothing happened. He disappeared in the trees and went another 30-40 yards and was piled up. Turned out to be a 5 pt. Three on one side and a fork on the other side. He didn't have brow tines. Excited to get my first deer with the matrix. I have one week left of bow season before muzzle loader season opens. As much as I like using the Xbow, when the smoke poles are legal, the strings go to bed. I have one more week to hunt so maybe I can tag one more to give her 2 notches for her rookie season.

Congratulations on the buck!

The doe looking at you is a good example of reaction time. She saw the release & reacted rather than hearing the shot & reacting. She had about 2/10 of a second more time to react and she completely dodged the arrow!
(I learned that lesson, too, when I first started hunting with a crossbow.)
