Congrats on a great buck. Love the story to.

I have always wanted to try a decoy but have been afraid it would scare them off.

Thanks for the congratulations everyone!

Xcalibur- I used the thrasher 2 last year and came up empty. This year I've been dripping it into mock scrapes and using it with the decoy and its working great. The Buck Butter you recommended to me has been a staple for me since I started using it. I've taken at least a dozen does over the past two seasons because of it.

Duckhunt- Urban areas are my bread and butter. My buddy and I started hunting them about 3 years ago and have had great success and a great times with them. Surprisingly getting permission is pretty easy as everyone wants the deer gone. We have about 6 urban spots all together wit the biggest being 45 acres and the smallest at 8 acres. I can leave work and be in a tree in under 10 minutes. You don't get the peace and quiet but you do get the deer.

Fred T-- I use the 125 grain, 2 1/4" Swhacker. I've had great success with them over the past 3 seasons and will not change unless they stop making them. I almost always get pass through's unless they are going into a big bodied deer such as this one. Shooting a lower fps bow such as my Axiom doesn't help the cause either, however I know its because of the slower speed and larger cutting area that the pass through doesn't happen. They always pile up just the same.

Killshot & NYexhunter-- Please take this information with a grain of salt as I'm certainly no expert at this, more like a lot of reading with some trial and error sprinkled in. I seldom use a doe decoy because does are quite simply a pain in the butt. They are very inquisitive and will often come into investigate. They then figure out something is not right and start too stomp, blow, etc... at the new girl in town. This tends to ruin a hunt sometimes.

Bucks on the other hand are different, kind of like all guys. They come home from a night on the town and find a dude standing in there living room. Well just like anyone of us they roll up there sleeves and are ready to fight, no talking stomping etc... lets just get it on. Does also tend to not come into a buck decoy as they are tired of being chased as it is, so they tend to shy away. I had a spike come in this morning to the same set up and hang around for 10 minutes checking him out. He was very submissive, walking around with his tail tucked between his legs, yet very curious. He eventually just walked off. You have to be of the mindset that you are only going after bucks that day, or during that particular week and be prepared to see fewer deer, i.e. fewer does, because of it. For myself I tend to take to my does in October and December, leaving November to focus on killing the big mature bucks, if they are willing to cooperate. Again this is just my personnel experience, I'm no expert at this.

That's just it with that Thrasher, when it works, it WORKS! If you have competing bucks in the area, that stuff will get them worked up! Buck Butter, is just something i use all the time, it makes the area smell like deer, just a calming scent that is taken from deer bedding. Just Like Deer Dander, but not as messy to use! Dewy, I'm glad to hear of the great success you're having, good luck the rest of the season.
