Best way to keep warm feet
Seems my feet always get cold. I use wool socks, good boots but they are always the first to get cold then goes down hill from there. Any advice, boot blankets? Just not sure.

This may sound goofy, but lots of people over boot! Simple question, do your feet get sweaty walking in? Next if no is your answer, good wicking socks, and maybe heavier boots! 1200 gram, or more.

I usually wear heavy wool socks and a pair of 200 to 400 gram insulated boots that I purposely buy about 1 size larger than my summer shoes so they fit a bit loosely.xcaliber wrote:This may sound goofy, but lots of people over boot! you can buy hand and foot warmers (those one-shot chemical types) over the interweb and at ski shops....."Grabber" and "HotHands" are two brands that come to mind.

1. BAMA socks from Marks. Boots have to be one or two sizes larger than your feet
2. Thermacell rechargeable heated insoles ($130 ish) with remote control heat selector (no wires or batteries)

I try to hunt from my hot tub.

I put my boots on the heat outlet in the mud room the night before. Starting out with warm boots help. Also, Kennetrek boots are some of the warmest

I throw a pair of hot paws at the end of my boots when I arrive on stand as well as a pair in my gloves - My feet are always the first to go as well. In addition to the hot paws I wear neoprene socks with a good wool set over top.
I see a number of stores now have electric soles for boots - They are pricey but I'm thinking of giving them a shot. As I get older the cold is starting to wear on me.
Cheers

As it gets colder I switch from tree stands to ground blind.
Frosty mornings increases the possibility of slipping so play it safe despite a harness which may prevent falling to the ground but hanging from tree just doesn't cut either
in my blind I have small propane portable heater. Run it on low which keeps it just toasty.

Re: Best way to keep warm feet
What I find happens as you layer up and wear the heavier clothing is that after a short time of sitting your feet start getting cold. Usually it's because when you sit (and knees are bent) your circulation is restricted and the lack of proper blood flow gets the tootsies cold. Try straightening your legs as often as you can to increase blood flow. For gear, and I've hunted in -50 C, i use a merino base layer sock under a HEAVY wool sock. I then wear the extreme cold weather moon boots from Mark's making sure they ARE NOT snug fitting. That's pretty much what I've found works best for me.
You're only paranoid if everyone isn't out to get you.
