Everyday I placed him in the best spot and I took the secondary spot, hoping he would shoot one. Fresh deer sign was everywhere but the deer were not cooperating much at all.
At 9am on Friday morning I was 20 yards in the bush watching a corn field edge using my Wabi grunt call and I heard footsteps behind me. I was sitting on my Cabelas Turkey lounger only inches off the ground and turned my head left to see him coming in.
How I managed to slide off my lounger onto my knees and turn around with my 405 without being seen by this mature 8 point is a mystery to me. I think he was tired after a night of chasing does, anyway, they say bucks are most vulnerable during the rut and I agree.
I found an opening in the woods and held my Leupold Firedot in his travel path. At 20 yards he stopped in my window and looked away, how nice!. I touched the Triggertech and the 170 grain 3" FOC tipped Zombie hit him in the middle of the lungs. These FOC mechanicals really impress me with their large cutting surface and durability. He ran 40 yards and stopped only to keel over dead 20 seconds later. This is my 4th deer using them and ever recovery has been very short and bloody.
This is my best Xbow buck to date:
I would like to thank my Dad for a great week and in no particular order thank a few others who added their assistance to making my 405 shoot great.
