18" diablos from micro 335??

Post by brenden270 »

Well it took all of 40 shots to destroy my four quills and the local supplier where I bought my bow doesn't have the 16"quills yet. He does however have a zillion 18" diablos. Can anyone tell me what my weight will be with a 150 field point and if the diablos are spined correctly for the micro? Basically wondering if its ok to use these and what can I expect in terms of change in trajectory from a stock quill with a 150. My Nikon bolt works absolutely perfectly to 50 with the quills!

Thanks guys

brenden

P.S. This is my first excal and have to say it is absolutely amazing. Both my kids (10 and 8) can shoot it easily and my wife is deadly with it. Very sweet little package with the Nikon scope.

The stock quills are diablos, have him cut them down to 16.5". If you still have the broken quills pull out the front inserts and install them in diablos.

I believe the 18" Diablos with a 150 head weigh 400-403 grainish.
The Quills are said to be shorter Diablos.

Thanks for the replies guys! The weight of the diablos is about the same.. as my quills were all 397g.. so really I should be able to shoot them with no substantial change at all? What then, is the advantage of the shorter bolt? Aesthetics?

Sorry for the rookie questions...

If you use a longer bolt or quill it will stick out past the stirrup, which can snag onto anything it comes in contact with. If you have a broad head on it will stick in the dirt asphalt or concrete, which can destroy the head, make it dull. You want it long enough so that when you go to de-cock your bow your boot will hit the arrow/quill hopefully bringing it to your attention or you may be sorry.

ok cool.... so ideally for safety and arrow care...about halfway through the stirrup is best...makes sense. I will cut the diablos to 16" then. Thanks guys.

Brenden, where are you located? I have 4 nearly new Quills that I don't use. We might be able to work out something. PM me if you are interested. I don't have the 150 grain field points, I gave them away. I'll look to see if I stashed some from one of my other Excals.
