doe down...Matrix 310

Post by jason mc »

Finely! I have been hunting a few weekends since I got my 310 but no luck. Saturday evenings hunt that all changed. It was getting down to the wire when 5 doe wondered in to feed. I was getting wound up...new crossbow in hand, deer coming in, Oh man today is it! Bad thing is if one didn't get to me in time it was going to be past legal hunting hours for the day. Finely a doe turned and walked straight in and started feeding on the other side of this big red oak blocking my shot. She fed around there for a few stepping out giving me a nice 25 yard shot. Man what a thump! she tore out of there just a getting it. I watched her run for 50 yards, stop make a wobble or two and she took off again! Now I was wondering about my shot placement. I kept telling myself "now I know that shot was good, I know it was, It had to be a heart shot, it had to be" . I climb down from my stand to find my bolt covered in blood and fur. I had no more doubts. The blood trail looked great. I knew she was down. I trailed her up to where I seen her wobble and 10 yards from there....there she was. When I stared field dressing here I did make a heart shot. I couldn't help but to think of the topic "whitetails are remarkable "machines" Oh how true. After saying thanks as I always do in being aloud to take such a wonderful animal I got here home. Earlier this year I was lucky enough to get 2 deer with a cheap crossbow from rural king. (its an ok bow but no Excalibur) my freezer was full. I have a long time buddy that the years caught up with him keeping him from the woods this year. I knew he wanted a deer and just loves to hear about how the hunt went down. I took it to him last night. We sat for a few drinking a cold one trading hunting stories of the past that we have told each other a million time and im sure we will tell them to each other a million more. Well as long as we can remember them

Congrats on the deer Jason. Very admirable of you to give a deer to a friend who can no longer hunt. Very nice gesture during Thanksgiving week.

He has done it for me. A couple years back I had health issues durring hunting season and couldnt go. he fixed me right up. This was pay back and to show him his good deed did not go unnoticed. Now that he isnt going to make deer seasons one of our hunting gang will make sure he has some sort of good tasting critter in the freezer. :)
