did a lttle more work on rusty

Post by munch »

some of you may have heard me talk about a bow i was wanting to put together .tonight i did a little work on a custom bow im building called rusty. its a vixen stock and rail with a matrix 405 front riser and limbs . this setup should make the bow a little stronger than a matrix 405 as it has an extra 1/4 draw .im thinking it should shoot a 350grain arrow 425fps but will need to shoot it threw my croni in the next couple days .heres rustys first shot. this target will stop a 175lb bow with 6 to 8 inches of penetration.the arrow in the bag is a 20" 2019 arrow . im more than impressed.this will be my new moose hunting bow

Very cool Munch! I'd like to see your chrony results too, that combo should be smoking!

Very interesting!

Did you manage to find just the Matrix parts or did you have to buy an entire bow to get the riser and limbs?

Is it possible to put a Matrix 405 riser and limb set on the Exomax rail? That would add 2.5-3" of power stroke to a set of limbs already producing 405 fps on the shorter Matrix rail...

Gotta love tinkering with stuff. The wife just doesn't understand why I buy perfectly fine stuff just to Frankenstein it!

Absolutely, not...

I'm not starting an argument and simply don't know.

Why wouldn't it? The Vixen and Exomax rails aren't any different, are they?

When you're drawing the bow there isn't that much more flex in the limbs when the string is drawn back 2-3" so the limbs wouldn't be flexing that much more with 3" more power stroke. Excalibur wouldn't stress the limbs enough that they're nearly ready to break on the 405, so they should easily handle a couple more inches of stroke and still be safe.

Gus that may be a job for Moon . Lol. I would not recamend doing any changes to a bow and would no even begin to think that any mod to a bow is coverd in any way . I'm on my own

well you just cant believe how disappointed i am  i could not take the suspense any longer and took the bag down it the basement and set up the chrony and took 8 shots .not disappointed in rusty but disappointed i had to turn the lights out to get the darn thing to register 418.9 is all i could get it to read there must be something wrong that just wont do for deer will it .sucks shooting an 18" arrow into a 20" square block i had trouble twice fishing enough arrow out of the bag to hook my danny miller pliers on. not much point glueing fletchings on again
