first time buyer; which model?

first time buyer; which model?
I'm torn between the Micro 335 and the Matrix 355, both are the same price. Which one is better suited to a begginer? I'm ONLY hunting whitetail and possibly turkey...
The Micro definately has my attention more then the 355 does, but is it well suited to a begginer? Is finding the right length/weight bolts more complicated and finding the right replacement parts (strings, etc.) less obvious?
By the way, I might as well ask while I'm here, I would probably be replacing the scope. I've tried bushnell's legend HD line and I really like them for the money. The excalibur scopes look like 70$ tasco's next to it IMHO. Would there be a problem putting a Legend HD 1.75-5x32 Crossbow DOA scope on one of these x-bows?

I own both. Just got to shoot my Micro today. My vote goes to the Micro. It is a dang awsome bow. I may sell my 355 and buy me a camo Micro to go with my black one. As a beginner, you can't go wrong with either but for the same price IMO go with the Micro. Better trigger, smaller and quieter for deer hunting, comes with cheek piece and REDS and ADF and it is plenty fast and they are about the same to cock. Cheers

As I said I'm really a beggniner, so please school me, with the Micro 335 I would be 'stuck' using 350GR bolts right? Is this a handicap for deer/turkey?
How hard is it to find afermarket 'Quills' for this bow?

You can go heavier with the bolts, and there are several people that make arrows, and strings for these that you will have many options. I have both as well, and either way, you'll be set for deer & turkey. I like the power that the 355 provides, but the Micro in the stand is plenty bow for the largest deer in the woods. If you just want one, and stand hunt a lot, the Micro wins my vote.

Re: first time buyer; which model?
I bought a Matrix 380 in the spring and hunted with it ALOT this fall, and I bought a Micro a couple weeks ago and have shot it at targets quite a bit. I'm really torn as to which I like "best".
The size of the Micro is definitely hard to beat.

I would go with the Micro from all the reviews I've read. I just sold a 330 and have a Micro on the way. As far as the scope goes your other scope should work no problems, you can also put any single crosshair scope as well on them.

Micro all the way!!
I got mine dialed in with the quills today. WOW!!! what a machine this bow is.
I did some off hand shooting with the Micro. I was never really good with off hand shooting @ targets. I was shooting 1/2" groups @ 30 yards with ease. I predict the Micro will be be banned from all 3D competitions... LOL

How much do the Quills weigh on the Micro and what broadhead weight is best for my application?

Re: first time buyer; which model?
I am on my fourth Excalibur and loved them all. I have a M380 now. I got to shoot a Micro a few days ago at my dealer and I think it is Excals best yet. Saving for one now.
Re: first time buyer; which model?
OK thanks guys, I will be picking up a Micro tomorrow. I might not have access to a target range though before making my broadhead purchase.
Please tell me if I got this straight.
If I use 100GR broadheads that will be putting my totally weight @ around 367GR? With 367GR bolts I will be closest to the factory advertised velocity of 335? This means that the factory Quills weight 317GR? With this setup, I will be golden for deer out to 40 yards?

The factory quills are 250 to 252 gr. With a 100 gr. broadhead your total quill weight will be around 350 to 352 gr.vpsaline wrote:OK thanks guys, I will be picking up a Micro tomorrow. I might not have access to a target range though before making my broadhead purchase.
