Prime table fare. Even more when one tires of venison too many meals in a row.
The older squirrels can be parboiled before cooking with a favorite recipe and the young of the year, those who's ribs are still flexible as more cartilage than bone can be fried or baked with butter like a frying chicken without parboiling. I usually cut into quarters and have an additional back section left ,all good.
Lots of options and devoted fans. The tails have use in fly tying and Mepps corporation still interested in them. A while back blacktails were desired by guys tying ice fishing jigs.
Hides once lined some parkas and could probably work for shoelaces too.
Like any thing it is hard to describe taste. How it is prepared factors as well.
While my opinion runs towards chicken, others say squirrel is sweeter.
Remove most fat and too the small pea sized glands under forearms in arm pit area or it can get a little musky. I usually give them a salt water soak in the fridge overnight, unless I'm hungry.
One friend used to run them in his smoker and thought highly of them. Enough so that he handed out no samples...

Good luck with the HMR Dan. I love mine! They're squirrel killing machines! It's not uncommon to take 100+ yd shots with them once all of the leaves fall.

On grays the little 17 grain V-Max bullets will pretty much decapitate one. On fox squirrels, it will bug the eye out on the side that the bullet hits, and then blow the other side of the head off.

There's just something satisfying about picking up a squirrel that's missing most of it's head. :D

Thanks! I have never hunted them as I always have thought of them as tree rats. That said, I am willing to give it a try. Extends my hunting season :-)

Shot a 50 rnd target, got them into just under .500" ctc.

Went to the range Thanksgiving to check where it would shoot at 50 and 30 w/ 100 yd sight in. Range was busy, but there was a clean target at 100 yds. I shot 10 shots at and was satisfied w/ elevation.

Here's the 30 and 50 yd targets. '9' ring is 1" and '10' ring is 1/2".......... Happy camper.......

Haven't shot the Y-25 in a spell, but it's sitting there calling my name, lol.

Sweet! A very fine set up, congrats.
That would add a new dimension to range for sure.
In trying to retire a very old stevens model 87 a new marlin 60 has received a spring kit and dragunov stock. Still breaking it in.
For early season an old stevens model 15 used and abused rides in a bag on the back of the wheelchair.
That seventeen gonna reach about as far as you can spot em though!
Sniping them squirrels.
Good hunting to ya.
