Micro quill length

Post by Mo wannabe »

I know the micro has been out long enough for everyone to tinker with there quills some. I have cut some zombies down to 15 in and put a 92 gr insert and a 125 gr broadhead on and they fly well. Has anyone went any shorter and how do they shoot ? ....... I'm really liking these micros and curious as to what people have tried and if it shoots good or not
Keep your findings posted so we can all have the edge

I'm same length, and insert weight as you are, but I'm using 100 grain fixed blade heads, very happy!

It would be cool if someone could post a video on how to mod the factory quills or how to mod an aftermarket bolt to fit the micro like you guys have done.

Mo.. I have some of the same questions.. you read my mind
looking at my micro .. I think I could cut an arrow all the way down to 11 1/2'
and still shoot a slick trick.

I've done 16" Zombies, 110gr insert, 125gr Slick Trick and Nufletch Ignitors. Flying well. I think that is about 425gr total wt.

I would rather put 1/2" spacers on my stirrup and keep the quill at 16" for maximum weight and kinetic energy, plus it's a one time thing I don't have to keep cutting quills down the next 10 years.

Just assembled some executioners.
15 1/8" over all length(incudes plastic nocks and brass inserts)
with the blazers i ended up with 275gr
so my set up with 125gr slicks will be 400gr..i don't feel this is too light to hunt with so im happy..

This should be a good combo I would think.

I know this is fast but i have to go to work so im done with arrows for the day.
my front porch is set up and i have 20 yard target so i took it out and popped off a few arrows. :D not really a distance test.
I had assembled the bow a couple of nights ago and shot it twice..
today i got off maybe 15 shots..
very first shot. i was a little low..two clicks up on the scope and every shot from then on (using a rest) was smack dead on the quarter size pieces of tape.
its almost no fun

Yes Strum I think excalibur has outdone themselves with this Micro and I can't understand why anyone would want to try to hunt with a broadhead out past the stirrup ?????

Not trying to step on any toes here , just my opinion

I would like to know why you don't want the broadhead past the stirrup. I have been thinking of removing the stirrup and just using a rope loop. It makes any bow 5 inches shorter, a quarter pound lighter and quieter. If i am missing something please let me know. Like they say, you don't know what you don't know.

I like to hang my crossbow in the stand, I hang it on a bow holding hook, and don't want to risk hitting the hook with the broadhead when I grab it for a shot.

And if you hunt off the ground you don't have to worry about dragging or rubbing quill across everything your stirrup acts as a shield to some extent.... Less chance of a partial dry- fire when that big boy slips up on you and you have pulled quill off realese a hair in the excitement
Not that I have ever done that ...

I could see this happening, if you like to stalk hunt, you could bump it on brush, etc.
