GAME CAMERA USERS!! !!

Post by bubba »

Hey guys and girls, What kind of trail cameras ya'll using and how do you rate the ones you have? I've used a few different ones with really mixed results.. Thinking of a couple new ones, looking at the Moultrie 880 and the bushnell 6mp. What do you prefer under 200.00.......................

I have used a Reconyx for several years that has taken many thousands of pictures with no problems but it is pricey and I don't use it where it may get stolen. It uses 12 AA batteries and they seem to last pretty good. I have a couple of the Covert MP6s that seem to work well although one was taken after 2 weeks. I hate a thief. The Coverts are excellent on battery life.

I have the Moultrie 444, its a great cam , good battery life, trouble is it takes "C" batts, good day and nite pics and great trigger speed. Trouble is you can't find them any more, I think they stopped making them, maybe they were to good.

My buddy has 2 880's and really likes them.
I think their around $170 up here in snow country.

Not that many years ago the "best" camera's were barely a megapixel and had a conventional flash that "ate" batteries.

Now it's tough to go wrong with whatever you choose.

First - regardless of what brand, it was made in China by the "lowest bidder".

We sell game camera's where I work and I handle (among other things) all the returns.

THE brand to stay away from is Bushnell - one out of every three either doesn't work right out of the box or dies within the first few weeks of use.

I currently use camera's from Stealth Cam, Simmons and Wildview (I'm "price loyal" not "brand loyal") with IR flashes in the 1-6 mp range.

They all work fine for their intended use. All cost somewhat under 100 bucks on sale and with the (add on) external 12 volt battery set-up, they run for minimally 6 months on one charge (I run my camera's normally year round).

Unless you plan on blowing up your pics to poster size, don't pay extra $$$ for more megapixels - you really don't need it - 2 or 3 is more than enough to "intimately examine" the points on a bucks rack.

And besides, when the camera gets "ripped off" (happens often enough), better to only be out 60 or 80 bucks as opposed to 200+ for the camera that will sell for 60/80 bucks two years from now when the "next latest/greatest" hits the stores.

I have 3 Uway cellular game cams that I absolutely love, but they cost more than $200 and incur a month charge to boot.

My new favorite is a Browning Strike Force. I own 6 and have been using them for almost two months, and the picture quality is excellent. After nearly 4000 pictures on each camera, the battery meter is still showing 100%, but that's with AA lithium batteries.

I use the Covert MP-E5 cams. Bought two them for $50.00 each. I use Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries in the cams and I get 12 months on the batteries before they die. Pic quality is what it is for trail cams.. Good enough. Never had a malfunction so far either.

I also have two Bushnell Trophy Cam 8 Megapixel HD Trail Cameras that I just bought recently for a great price.. I've not used them yet other than around the house.

I have several buddies who run Bushnell cams for years that have not had issues with the better quality Bushnell cams. Who knows?? if you put out enough product, some are gonna fail..

I have a Moultrie M-80 that I have used for a few years now. Good batteries last me about a year. You can pick one up for a little over $100 these days. It a 5MP model which is plenty fine for a trail camera.

I have a suspicion that Santa may have one under the tree which I will gladly deploy regardless of the make/model.

My two Bushnell Trophy Cams are about 5 years old now and stay in the woods for 6 to 8 months out of the year. Neither has ever had any problems at all.

Bubba, I have about 10 different cameras. Have 3 880 moultries. They are my most reliable cameras. Excellent battery life and take decent pics. just wish they were more adjustable.

I bought mine from Trailcampro.com, and they were about $130. I highly recommend these cameras and Trailcampro.com (they are a wealth of information).
