TOP MOUNTED QUIVERS

Post by CT.HNTR »

I have recently noticed several photos of top mounted quivers on the forum. These are quivers mounted above the rail and not below. I am curious what the benefit is from an above rail top mount and why it is preferred to a below rail mount?

It seems to me that the above rail mount could be a visual distraction?

There is not any obstruction of view. It makes it easier to use shooting sticks because the bottom is now flat, and you won't bump the quiver bracket on your Treestand. Last thing is, they look sweeeet! :D

I guess a better question is why would a company that makes such a great crossbow develop such a poorly designed quiver mount? :?:

To me, the top mount just makes sense. It allows you to carry it slung over you shoulder. It allows you to use a shooting rest without obstruction. It is centered over to bow to evenly distribute the weight (not cocked off to the side on the bottom).

Munch has a great design, and I have one on all three of my crossbows.

I have used the factory mount for a dozen or so years on my Exomax/Vixen/Exocet and found it tough and uncomfortable to sling my bows over my shoulder with my other gear.

When I bought my M4 I picked up a mount from Munch and had to ask myself why I haven't switched sooner~!

I (my opinion only) have found the factory mount gets hung up when navigating through thick bush (blood trail situation) and have found a considerable difference using the Munch Mount.

I do not find any visual distraction as I always remove the quiver when I get to my watch.

Not to mention that Munch's craftsmanship is outstanding and the setup sets my M4 off perfectly.

Just my opinion from up here in the cheap seats~!

Thanks for the feedback! It all makes good sense.

I have not used any of the quiver mounts in the past as I have always carried my quiver on my backpack but have recently been thinking about adding the quiver to the bow. I am going to strongly consider a top mounted quiver.

Any issues with loading and unloading bolts into the rail with the quiver up above?

I haven't had my micro long but I'll toss in my .02$. I don't have my quiver attached to my bow to begin with. Just added weight that I don't need and it comes off when I get in the tree anyway so no real point. If I were to use a quiver mount though, I'd for sure get a munch mount as top mounted makes the most sense and they do look pretty badass!

I've never used the top quiver mount. I will say they look cool but just from looking at them it seems they would make loading /unloading the bow cumbersome. I would have to physically try one because just from studying pics I honestly can't see any benefit or gain other than esthetics if that's the look you like. Jmo.

There can be some loading issues at first, but just like anything else, you adapt to the configuration quickly. I too hunt with my quiver removed, and used to carry it in to my stand strapped to the backpack. Then one day, I got out there to hunt only to find I forgot it! I installed the quiver bracket, put my quiver in the case, and just made it a habit to look for it being attached before trekking off. Then the issue of it beating my side, and back came into play when using the shoulder strap, so the top mount was a viable option for me. I think you will like the benefits.

I've become so used to loading arrows through the top quiver mount that I leave it in even for 3D season when I use my hip quiver. My bow just looks and feels naked without it. Love my MunchMount.

Loading is a little different but not enough to matter.
Another big advantage is hauling the bow in the truck ..it fits better .
and have you ever tried to hang your bow on the wall ?
The factory mount is in the way.

I like the look of the munch mounts.......I have a couple of them. But when you compare functionality/aesthetics, aesthetics wins (for me). I don't like quivers on my bows, period. The exception to that is carrying my bow to a stand but when I hoist the bow up to the stand the quiver comes off as I do not like the weight or the distraction of the quiver. If I'm still hunting with a compound the quiver comes off and is strapped to my pack. I also break-down my crossbow for transport frequently; the Munch takes up too much space and it does not come off readily (without tools), so that is another reason why I quit using the Munch. I just purchased the Excalibur quick disconnect quiver mount that enables you to take the entire quiver bracket off. This suits my needs more than any other option. Munch makes an excellent product for those who do not want to remove the quiver mount.

I find it the easiest way to carry the arrows. I do remove the quick release quiver when I get there although I will admit to leaving it behind a couple of times in the dark.
I'm pretty handy(and cheap) so I made one from some aluminum extrusion I found, just bolting on the factory quick release part.
After I made mine I found I can stand the bow on the stirrup and the quiver rather than lay it down.

I was on the fence, but after seeing a Micro outfitted , I think this is the way to go. The factory quiver is ok but its hard to carry your bow with a sling. Plus using a top mount with a backpack carrier is a lot easier on the long walk to the stand. :D
