Crossbones ?

Post by xbowhunter10 »

I've been thinking of upgrading the scope on my 355 and I have done a lot of research on the Leupold Crossbones . I'm a big fan of Leupold rifle scopes and I have them on most of my rifles and also on my slug gun . Just wondering what everybody that owned one thought of them . Do the yardage calibrations in the reticle work good with your particular FPS like the Excal scopes do and how is the low light clarity on them ? The yardage marks look small to me and I just wondered how well they showed up in low light conditions . Thanks

I shoot a Crossbones on my M330. I love mine. I have no problems at all with it during legal shooting hours which here are from can see till can't see. If we had black bear or hogs to hunt it might be harder to see the reticules against the black in low light but there are none around here.

Well there are a lot of leupold fans on this forum. and most love them. I two have Leupolds on a few of my rifles and like them very much. But personaly I'm not a fan of the crossbones or any of the Excalibur scopes,i know I'm gonna hear it from other members but that's cool. My opinion I like the Nikon Bolt xr, to me a much clearer scope but in low light situations they both are a little lacking. With that said and I've checked out at least six now I'm really liking the Hawke XB-1 SR IR and the XB-30 mm compact sr. The lighted reticles are great in low light and the glass an'it so bad. If you get a chance look down a few and then decide....I know I'm funny when it comes to clear glass on any scope. But I'm sure others see things differently. You be your own judge..........

I use nothing but Leupold on my rifles, but I put a Nikon Bolt on one of my Micro 335s and I have ordered another to put on the camo. I compared it to the Hawke under low light conditions and the Nikon will give you 10 to 15 min. of shooting light. Most times you can not see the difference in scopes in good light, but in this case the Nikon is obviously brighter and sharper. This is just my opinion, do not want to start a fight, been enough of that on this forum lately.

I use a crossbones on my 380 and love it ! Does great at the edge of dark ! Calibration seems perfect to me at varies yardages . Great Scope !

I have a Crossbones. works great. maybe a little on the long side with all these smaller model crossbows hitting the market.i was always curious about the Nikon Bolt. after having a few crossbow scopes with the circle reticles i can say i just dont like them. the circles seem to dissapear on you.The Bolt scope has no speed adjustment.the reviews say its rated at 305 fps. useable but for me too limiting.the Nikon looks small in size so i can see its appeal.looks similar in design to the Hawke MAP scopes and some of the Bowtech Stryker-Parker scopes and the clearance model Horton fixed power scopes.no one scope works for everyone. its good that we discuss likes and dislikes in any of the scopes out there.

I know they list the Crossbones as a 2x7 power scope but what power setting would it be on with a bow shooting around 340 FPS ? Is 340 FPS about mid way through the power range adjustment ? I wouldn't want too high magnification for close shots .

I have one on my m355. It is light, good low light and the distance markings are easy to line up.

ive not looked through a Crossbones but between it and the Nikon.im sure the CB is superior .
Not trying to sell the Nikon but for me I like the simplicity of it.
its kind of a no frills optic but the clarity is up there ,its not too busy either. For me all I want is to be able to stick it on , take some shots to dial it in at the yardages I want, and go hunt. it fills that bill perfectly..
now if it comes down to true target precision shooting at many yardages then I would want to stick with a single retical ,good magnification.(probably a Leoupld) with a HHA .

You won't regret buying the crossbones. It is superior to all other scopes I have tried & I have tried most of them.

I am only shooting a M330 so not getting 340 FPS but mine is about a 3 to 3.5 on the power range. I would think at 340 you might be around a 4X.

I love the Nikon, and the Refiled Revenge, but the Crossbones is one I would consider for my Nightmare! Next Excalibur on my list!

I'm running a crossbones on a 330 and 380 I have zero complaints.
Best scope I've tried hands down.
