330 Matrix Arrow Length?

Post by Big D »

I am shooting 18" black eagle executioner out of my 330 with 110grain brass inserts and 125 rage crossbow-x heads. I harvested 5 deer with this new setup this year and I like it a lot with one minor problem. Unlike my ibex and equinox that I sold the broad head sticks out past the stirrup. I have developed a habit while hunting of often resting my loaded crossbow on the stirrup. Since the broad heads extend past the stirrup is there any down side to cutting these to 17"?

Thanks Big D

That is exactly why I cut mine to 17" I see no down side to it!

That might be a tad too short for safety reasons on the 330! i use the 15" on my Micro, and can't get my foot in under the broadhead, just in case i forget to remove the arrow at night after an evening hunt!

Thanks for the replies. Should I cut them to 17 including the nock and insert? My BEEx. arrows I got from Dan Miller measure 18 and 1/4 with nock and insert. Heads seems to be about a 1/2 over stirrup when cocked. I no the stirrup can sink into grass and dirt with bodyweight on bottom of stock. Specific length with or without inserts and nock would be great.

Thanks again Big D

xcaliber it sounds like you cut your zombies at 16 3/4 am I correct?
Why do you choose Zombies over executioner?

Correct on length. I choose them for the extra stiffness, 25% stiffer with only .1 per inch added weight. Both are very good, I prefer the zombies.

After taking measurements the rage crossbow-x sticks out about 3/4 passed front of stirrup and 1 1/4 pass the part your foot touches. My BEE's are 18 1/4 with knock and insert and no head. I was going to get the new BEE's cut 16 3/4 with insert and knock finished at 17. I noticed most of you that responded shot a 355. Do you think I should go shorter for the 330 or should this work?

Thanks

Yes, you can go about 3/4" less, or finish length of 16 1/4" I would go with 110 grain inserts if you plan to use 100 grain heads.
