I don't think it does too much especially if you have an ADF. It makes noise too. Was thinking of taking mine off and polishing the bottom side of the retainer to make it very smooth. I think strum showed where he lost 3 fps by adding it.

I did lose 3 but im not sure it was the shrink tubing. on every bow I had though I have done it and it did reduce the sound a tick.
but to add to that ..I have seen speeds change a little from day to day..

I have heat shrink on one of my excals and not on the other . On my vixen without heat shrink on the arrow retainer it twangs a good bit . on my exocet not enough to notice . The arrow retainer on my vixen is painted and rough , the one on my exocet is smooth blued steel . It works for me , at least on my particular bow .

Shrink tubing works well to dampen the noise of the arrow retainer. If I lose 3fps it is of no conscquence to me. As Strum said arrow speed can and will vary from day to day and if you worry about 3fps you need to find another sport. :-)

I prefer the shrink tubing to contact the rail over having the bare metal clanking against it. Polishing it with denture polish/cloth polishing wheel on a lathe gives it a very slick surface and tends to make it last indefinitely. No velocity lost at all.

Helps reduce metal to metal sound. Really no effort at all. Even added some bowjax retention spring dampners. :D

Don't have any on mine. Maybe? Anybody shoot enough to wear through it (where the arrow passes along)? Just asking because I used to use shrink tube many years ago on my compound arrow rests and it had to be replaced probably once a season (shot lots).
