ran out of scope adjustment

Post by archerytho »

I just put an HHA on my axiom with the stock "SMF" scope I ran out of vertical adjustment, it is all the way down and hitting high by about 6 inches.

Although I am up grading to a Leupold VX 1 3-9 40mm.

I am Guessing that because the scope is quite different to most. (Doesnt have a speed ring) and is programmed to work the way it is intended.

Does anyone know the amount of adjustment on the stock SMF scope.

Thanks

Burris has some Signature Zee scope rings that have off set inserts that solve this type of problem. Check out this article.

I had the same problem. You'll need to shim the front of the scope. A couple of layers of pop can and you'll be all set.

Yes, I would think my new scope will have more adjustment.
I just wanted to make sure I didnt have a dodgy scope.

The Burris rings mentioned are worth considering. I'm trying to build two "perfectly" set up Matrix xbows. One with a 1" scope(Zeiss 75) and the other with HHA Optimizer/Duralyt 30mm. I have the Zee rings on one and am ordering for the other. These rings won't leave marks on the scopes and will allow the scopes to be adjusted to near the center of their adjustment.

The Burris inserts work great, had your same problem with my deer rifle. Needed more elevation bought the inserts and problem solved.

This happened to me on my Ibex. Someone on here suggested I flip the rings around and that did the trick for me

You want to move the crosshairs to the point of impact, preferably when the crosshairs are centered in the bore of the scope. So shim the front up.

Another option is to to go with a 30mm scope(How I fixed mine). They have a LOT more internal adjustment that should get you where you want to be without a shim. Twilight DLX and Hawke's. Both are great scopes for the money and on top of your HHA would give you best of both worlds with Multi line reticle locked at sight in distance AND long range via Dial...
Just my opinion..

Swapping scopes might still have you dialed down low in the travel which will also limit windage adjustment. Always better to stay as close to center as possible. Many who use the HHA need to shim the front. (Yup, the front).

Trying it won't cost you more than a few minutes and a pop can (or beer can  ).

Just curious how this works re: ring height and shims.

-So is it because adding a shim or changing the ring height gives you more elevation range because the scope's erector flips the image. So by physically moving the scope up, you essentially get more downward scope travel? And vice versa.
-Or is it because the scope raises a bit and the bow drops down a touch? And vice versa.

Inquiring minds need to know!

Vix, those arent beer cans.....they are cylindrical containers of flat aluminum shim stock, scissors required. :D
