2015 Magnus Black Hornet Ser Razor

Post by mchurch »

I just got a pack of 2015 Magnus Black Hornet 100 grain serrated edge broadheads. Magnus had been on my list to try for some time but I had not purchased some because I felt the cut was too small and the main blade was not thick enough. The new Black Hornet series has a 7/8 inch cut bleeder blade that is 0.040 inches thick . The main blade is 0.059 inches thick and has a 1 and 1/4 inch cut. The ferrule is 7075 aluminum and is short and stout. The blades are sharpened on the front and back and are super sharp. I was shooting my Excalibur Matrix 380 with SSAS 18 inch Spynal tap arrows with right helical blazer vanes, aluminum flat nocks and 50 grain brass lock and load inserts. I have tested way more broadheads than I would ever care to admit to. These are without a question the most accurate and consistent I have ever tested. I shot them from 20 to 60 yards and was more than pleased with the accuracy and penetration into the Rinehart target. With consistency and accuracy like that, it kinda takes away the desire to use a mechanical broadhead for me.

Thanks for the info, I am not a fan of expandable broadheads either!

Maybe a great BH, i jus don't care fer the serrated edge. Seems to me they jus don't slice clean, they pull as that openin between the blade goes by tissue. Jus think iof tryin to shave wid one?

Vixen,
You can get the non-serrated blades too. I'm going to try some if it will ever warm up.

Looks to fit my criteria of tough and re-useable. Those bleeders are 0.005" thicker than the main blades on a Slick Trick Xbow or Magnum. And I have no issues with those blades. But I agree with Mike - no serrated for me. Tears more than cuts and I want a smooth cut.

I don't think that serrated blade broadheads are legal in all provinces
and states.

Like the looks of the broadhead, where does the back edge of the blade/tip come into play? Does the back edge make it easier to pull back out of the cavity or animal on a not complete pass through? Or just creates more damage if lodged in animal or both? Just wondering...thanks.

Hmmm, I'm interested. I'm fond of the Stingers, and these look shorter and wider than the same weight Stinger, would that cause more planing or steering issues?
