Post by Jcomer »

Why would there be a burning smell after I shoot the crossbow. Shooting in my garage today and could really smell it.

I noted this as well. Attributed it to the string hitting the bumpers at a high speed and causing a burning rubber smell.

That is not a burning smell, it is an aroma, just like doe in heat, bruised pine needles, and beans being processed in deer champ. All part of the wonderful world of hunting.....eh eh eh Cheers

Yep, my crossbow in a previous life was a Horton Recurve and I still have three or four tubes of Horton rail lube left which I occasionally apply (every 50 shots or so just out of habit mostly).

When freshly applied for the next ten shots or so there is a noticeable sulfur smell - I assume any kind of string wax or lube would produce some sort of odor as the string burns it off.
