Might be a while.

Post by BrotherRon »

Might be a while till I can cock my crossbow again.
I had inguinal hernia surgery yesterday. (12 hours ago)
They put a mesh in and I will be off work 4 - 6 weeks.
Not sure how long it will be until I can cock my crossbow.
I go back to see him in a week........ wonder if I dare ask him about that? lol
meds seem to be working so far, but getting worse by the hour.
Not sure I will be able to even move in a few hours :(
I'm sure its the mesh causing the pain, but it feels like he left a knife in there!
Going to get another ice pack and lay down again.

I know you didn't ask but If the ice pac helps, one thing you might want to check out is a "cold water circulation pad". The one I bought was called "cold rush" for about $150us off amazon, but there are many other brands as well. I bought it for my wife when she had knee surgery and I just lent it to a friend who had shoulder surgery. Both raved about how it helped with the pain and kept the swelling down. It is some of the best money you will ever spend as no ice pack can even come close. Load it up with ice and it will keep the area truly ice cold for 6-8 hrs. Matter of fact my friend liked the cold so much, he didn't follow the warnings to keep a towel or shirt between the pad and your skin and it almost gave him frostbite.

Some are essentially a small lunchbox sized igloo cooler with a circulator pump built into the lid that hooks to a pad. They have different pads for different areas which vary in size and shape and a universal rectangular pad that is a jack of all trades. I liked the look and reviews of the "cold rush" unit as it was about the only one that looked like it was actually well designed rather than repurposed pieces. I promise I don't sell these things, but I have spent a lot of hours making and swapping out ice packs before I ran into this little gem. I hope you get back on your feet and back in the hunt soon.

Send me a PM you have any questions or want to know more.

Keeping down the swelling is a must!!!

I had my hernia surgery about this time last year and the swelling was really bad. All my "man parts" doubled in size. While this would normally be on the plus side, trust me, it was a definite negative. Be religious with the ice protocol.

If you can recover from this procedure in four weeks you are a superman, best to count on six before you really feel back to normal.

The next few days are the very bad ones. Getting in and out of bed will be an experience.

Good luck with your journey.

I know exactly how you feel because I had the same surgery last Friday but I had a hernia on each side so they had to do the mesh on each side . I'm just now getting to where I walk almost straight up but I must say that a week has made a big difference . I have shot my crossbow a little but of course I was letting my 17 year old son cock it for me . I had to try it out since my single stage Trigger Tech arrived on Monday :D Hope you heal up soon but we need to be careful with how much we try to do .

Yup. I just developed the same thine about 2 weeks ago. I went out with my Exomax yesterday and was ok. Doc told me not to lift more than 20 lbs. My surgery is not until June 15, then no lifting for 6 weeks. Now I did the math, and that puts me into August before I can cock my crossbow. CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP. On my way out of the consultation with the Doctor, I asked his Nurse if the Doctor has steady hands. The hernia is really close to parts of my body that are working fine. lol. Hope you have a fast recovery.

Thats not funny lol
The first thing they tell you before surgery is that there is a chance of that happening.
I had a couple people at work tell me it didn't go well for them.

One person said the dr cut a nerve and now she only has feeling on one side, the other side stays numb. She said she needs the other side done now, but will put it off as long as possible because she doesn't want to end up with the whole area being numb

I went through a double 2 years ago. I think I remember that it hurt. Alright I will admit it...IT HURT....and I was solid black for a week or three down there.
But, you do need to cough. And live life as near to normal as you can. It will pass. SLOWLY....
Good thing is you are whole again and will be up and around soon and back to normal.

I hope you feel better soon. Now go eat another pain pill. Alcohol really helps taken with the pills. Says so on the bottle (Alcohol intensifies effect).
