Poisonous Snakes / Spiders -Killers Bees - Red Ants - Malaria - Hurricanes

No Thanks

How I like living in Ontario.

Now if we could just give the present of lymes disease and West Nile back to our southern friends where it came from life would be perfect. :D

If the "danger theory" for killing snakes were applied to other animals that cause injury and death to humans, the following animals should be killed upon sight.

Saltwater Crocodile
Hippopotamus
Box Jellyfish
Cape Buffalo
Great White Shark

I submit to you sir that your position is illogical and has no defense.

Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

But an opinion that the only good snake is a dead snake damning an entire species certainly has no facts to support the statement.

people can be both mean and dangerous....no copperhead is mean, just potentially dangerous. they don't bite out of spite or prejudice, just out of fear or hunger. I have dealt with hundreds of venomous snakes in the field. I trust their behavior patterns more than people. they are more predictable. I carry a handgun in the woods to protect me from people not snakes.

Great thread. You can always count on snakes to evoke a response.

The things I worry about the most while working in the woods:

1. Getting some tick-borne disease again.
2. Getting covered up with redbugs and having to break out the dog shampoo.
3. Dogs.
4. Getting shot by hunters or weed growers.
5. Getting in spitting matches with pissed off hunters.
6. Venomous snakes.
7. Hogs and bears are tied.
8. Heat stroke.

1) I already got rickettsia parkeri once...hate them ticks...I buy concentrated permethrin and make my own spray...
2)does dog shampoo work?
I live in Okaloosa county...what county are you?

I've had tick-borne illnesses twice. No picnic the last time. Was not identified either time. I use permethrin spray also.

Dog flea and tick shampoo does work, some brands seem to work much better than others. Must credit my wife with the idea of using clorox clean up wipes for redbugs and seed ticks.

Myself as in snakes no thanks try to avoid them all the way around. Got a good friend I have hunted with for years. He was bit on his finger by a step and a half in Nam said the only thing that saved him was his Sgt , God, and his wedding ring showed me the 1 fang mark on his finger that he still has - He's the only man I have ever known to live through that bite from that kind of snake and He is 65 yrs young - One very lucky man for sure !!!!
